Spamming Map Pings
I find map pings pretty distracting. If it's a ! about someone who is offscreen and heading my way, that's great. In that case the distraction really helps and I'm saved by someone pinging at me...
Sadly, those truly informative map pings only seem to account for about 10% of the total map pings. The rest are people spamming !!!!!!!! all over the screen for no reason whatsoever. Like, if I'm literally in the middle of combat with someone, you don't need to warn me they are dangerous. I know they have damaging abilities, too. Those pings are just super distracting, and get me killed most of the time, because I've got to stop paying attention to cooldowns and skill shots and where the enemy is and what they're doing, all because someone is splashing random garbage on my screen. It's like having someone randomly throw pineapples at you while you try to bowl; there is simply no version of it that will ever be helpful. So I ask people nicely, very nicely, to stop doing it, when it happens.
But, of course, LoL is Troll City, and the minute you ask someone not to do something, they do it even more. Which ruins my game, and destroys my ability to care about big picture stuff like winning or losing, as I'm simply trying to overcome the persistent, mosquito-like annoyance that refuses to go away.
So, in this situation, we all end up mad at each other. I'm mad at them for spamming me. They're mad at me for dying three times as much as I should, but the only reason that's happening is because I can't even begin to focus on the game through their !!!!!!!! monsoon. I report the spammers. I assume many of them report me, as well.
I don't think being distracted by distracting things is against the TOS, but I'm pretty sure spamming is against the TOS. I wish people would just be civilized, and stop doing things once you've asked them nicely to stop.
But am I right? By the TOS? Does no mean no in LoL? And can we not have some limiter on map pings? I don't want them turned off, but allowing people to machine gun them does no one any good. It's not like anyone, ever, has been like, "Well, the first two map pings seemed like practical jokes, but then the nine map pings after that really convinced me there was danger, so thank goodness you pinged eleven times!"
