P.S. ____, the bully, is still running around playing without a punishment, and yet I get punished for asking for him to help me and stop making fun of me.

I've done a decent job behaving since I was punished a few months ago, because I don't want my account banned. I met an exceptionally toxic person who tilted me with insults and threats of reports, and I'm clearly upset. It's really upsetting I got punished due to this one single game, and due to this bully's one report.

Riot's Ticket Response: (They basically justified the ban)

"Hi there,

I know its really frustrating to suddenly get a chat restriction, so hopefully I can shed some light on why this happened and help make sure it doesn't happen again.

I understand it might feel like nothing said here was a serious problem, but the chat in this log is primarily arguing with and criticizing other players. Because these things contribute to a bad experience for everyone in a game, they can lead to a chat restriction.

Though I absolutely get that other people's bad behavior can be really frustrating, our system doesn't choose sides and penalizes negativity whether its in response to others or not. I know this can feel unfair at first, but the reason it works this way is that firing back at other players doesn't do anything to stop them, and very often makes the situation worse. In these situations, your best option is to use the mute button, and report them after the match so we can track their behavior and penalize them if necessary.

Just so you know in the future, all a report does is cause the system to review a game. Any number of reports have this effect, so there's actually no need to ask other players to report someone, and being reported has no effect if you're not using chat negatively.

While I won't be able to remove this restriction or alter your honor, I'm here if you have any more questions and confident you can avoid additional penalties.

I'm arguing? my teammate was saying something disagreeable, such as insulting me in multiple ways.

As I said, it doesn't matter what others are doing/saying. It is fully possible for all 5 players on a team to be in the wrong if all are behaving poorly.

Things like the following are not okay:

Just mute them. Don't advertise it and don't gloat about it or flame them for being toxic.

Passive aggressiveness isn't generally the best way to handle things, and it's almost never okay. Sarcastic comments are rude and not helpful.

He's trying to bring his teammate back who is being negative towards him. He is not arguing, he is pleaing for them to leave him alone. Again, please open up a ticket with Riot. This is, in my eyes, every type of mistake. Chermorg will argue against me, say how stupid and wrong I am for believing that you are NOT guilty. You aren't guilty, open that ticket, keep it active, voice your opinion to Riot and get rid of that "negative 10 day chat restriction".

He is free to mute, which is the only appropriate solution to getting someone to leave him alone. Adding to negativity by drawing attention to that negativity is not okay.

This is not a mistake. I would not want to play with someone who talked like that all game. Most other players would also not want that player in their game. Negativity is not okay just because someone else started it or was being more negative.

This is disgusting, straight up. I can not believe the amount of nothings you are allowed to say, and you just are okay with this? How can you be okay with this? Who is OKAY WITH THIS? This is starting to aggravate me reading anything you type and have an "advisor" tag on your name. You have zero empathy, zero ability to add context between the lines.

I can count how many lines he has typed, and only a handful are "negative". All 5 can be wrong? How can all 5 people be wrong, if 4 people are bulling you, with actions and words, you can only stop one of them. How much can a human take before he is allowed to defend himself in this game? Tell me, how is this? This is exactly the type of behavior that angers me in games, I don't accept people's bullshit, I choose to defend myself, I have that right, he is HARDLY EVEN DOING THAT! He is essentially stating, he is unhappy, distressed and they're not helping. And I'll choose to defend this guy, regardless of consequence.

You have the right to defend yourself. The proper defense is muting and reporting.

Arguing back does absolutely nothing - as you can see the other player did not stop flaming/abusing OP, and all it did was turn one negative player into two for the rest of the team to have to deal with.

Well, from my experience, the majority of players cower down when someone begins bullying another, and while they might like a silent game, they certainly make an exception to let a bully continue to run his mouth all game. They're certainly quick to tell a poor performing player who is being bullied to shut up, though (It's certainly easier on you to pick the victim to advertise silence to). It's because y'all don't want to feel the unrest of telling a bully to stop bullying. There isn't as much unrest in telling a victim to shut up.

No, they didn't make any exception, they likely muted the guy bullying you, which is what you should've done.

You act as if there's no mute button in the game - there is, and that's the proper response to toxicity - not arguing back and continuing the negativity.

Unlike IRL where you CAN'T avoid the school bully or whatever, you actually have a mute button that will prevent the bully to have any further impact on you AND a report button to have him punished for his misbehavior.

So yeah. What are you actually achieving by "defending the bullied" besides adding negativity to an already dire game?

Yet, in my eyes, he is not being mean, or even that negative. He is literally asking for people to NOT attack him, and gets attacked, then from the sounds of it more people jump on the bandwagon. If you are so opposed to being against negative behavior how about the actual instigating guys get punished and the victim not.

I've never seen pregame chat before? Am I punished for saying the "S" word in Pre-Game? My in-game chat was not mean, it was not griefing, it was me talking to someone who called me bad names, was asking for everyone to report me, and gave me advice like "buy an ancient coin and hide under turret, stop dying," as well as "we won't gank for you because your lane is lost."

Riot does not punish for words, but for behaviors. Saying the word report will not result in a punishment of a log magically because it has the word in it. Calling for reports on others repetitively is harassment and punishable, however.

I didn't call on anybody to report anybody else. In fact, this teammate told everybody else to report me and told me he would report me. He is not punished. I am. He hurt my feelings. I told him he hurt my feelings. I get punished for telling him he hurt my feelings.

Saying you're reporting others is the same as calling for reports. You're throwing a big advert out there saying "this player deserves reported". Phrasing it as "I'm reporting" versus "Please report" doesn't make it any different.

Hopefully this is more clear:

Any form of "pointing" or "calling" out toxic behavior is not okay, as it constitutes harassment and increases the negativity. The entire game your chat was focused on either harassing the other player, arguing with the other player, or pressuring others to surrender. That's not acceptable behavior in League.

Again, not true at all.

I'll frequently remind players "hey, just report them at the end and mute them now" if they look like they're getting tilted. I have never been punished.

I'm just really upset that I reform, shut up, and behave for a few weeks since I unlocked my honor, and then this guy rallies my team to report me and belittle me. One game, it's all over, and I'm charged with unsportsmanlike conduct because I was upset with another person's bullying and I told him so. Now, my honor is locked up, I cannot communicate with people in ranked games, and this other guy is still playing, with his behavior justified with a lack of punishment and probably a message telling him that someone he reported got punished. Why did I even behave better for this entire month if Riot will take it away with a single game within which I didn't do anything toxic. I absorbed mental abuse from teammates and told him I felt bad and BOOM! I'm punished. Don't mind me asking for assistance in the game. Asking for assistance more than once, telling people you feel bad after they try to make you feel bad, and having a bad score gets you punished.

I just don't get why you asked the other ppl on your team to defend you. That's just super lame, and it puts those ppl off too, and now they can't focus on the game properly. You should not put ppl on the spot like that, just play your own game and you'll be fine.

there's a reason that you only see your chat lines when you get punished...it doesn't matter what ANYONE else in the game says or does, it's all about how you handle it

amazing how many people dont get that simple concept

You and I.. and millions of others are in the same boat. Bullying is not 'encouraged' per say in League of Legends.. but it is enabled. The fact is multiplied when you put premade bullying into the equation. This board is brimming with angry people and you know misery loves company. I've seen this same "advisor" on similar forum topics shooting them all down with the same response.

How someone so lacking in sympathy, empathy and integrity can maintain a position is repulsive. Victim blaming is a trend to displace accountability when it comes to forum moderators/advisors. They're not all this lacking.. but take a look at most recent post and more than half are hateful and spite the alleged violator.
