why isn't hate speech resulting in a ban?

i've seen a lot of people say that very severe things will get you a ban even without escalating up the punishment ladder. if you've never been punished before, even something small like 10 game chat bans, i thought there were a few things that could get you banned right away? hate speech, racism, death threats, "kill yourself" etc.

i reported a guy for harassment / hate speech tonight, after he spent all game calling me a %%%got and harassing the enemy team just as much, calling the enemy mid laner autistic, all sorts of cursing at the enemy team because he lost lane.

got the message shortly after i reported him saying "a negative player has been punished by the tribunal" etc etc. figured he got banned.

and the guy is in game right now

bragged to me in post game chat about how he doesn't care about being reported because riot won't care. guess he was right.

im sure a 10 game chat restriction is enough punishment for someone that called me & my gay friends %%%s all game lol

yeah I reported a player that told me to kill myself and that if I hung myself nobody would care. I never got a message saying he had been dealt with. Sucks sometimes but I'm sure his real life is probably so bad that he has to berate someone over the internet to feel good.

I'm not certain that getting the "they've been punished" pop up means that the player that was reported was immediately removed or will be punished soon. They may have been given a chat restriction. To be honest, it's not your place to know what happened to them. Privacy rules prevent it.

You reported them. The system said they were punished. If they break the rules again, report them again. People like that dig their own grave.

How about everyone understands its a game, if you don't want to hear what they have to say mute them. Easiest fix to whatever problems the players are giving you. Banning a player that spends money on your game for talking smack in a game is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Its a game, treat it like one and grow up. Speaking as someone who gets reported for having fun ripping on people, most of the time for calling abusers of the system out.
