What I learned from chat restriction(s)

I'm going to say «/sarcasm» now because most people will probably be dumb enough to believe what i'm going to say :

first of all : Trolls are always right no matter what, if you respond to their douchebaggery, you are the wrong one and you deserve the chat ban , trolls run free so they can keep ruining other games.

second : do not speak to people, being communicative with your teamates is bad and contributes to toxiness. If your teamates harrasse you, Remember! Do not respond back, or else you are the wrong one and you will get punish!

Ok now for the serious part :

Riot doesn't seems to actually look at the context of the «insults» or offensive language. If we do an invade, and we fail, and I say «10/10 invade gg noobs report» and then, you look at the other responses of the other players, and it's nothing negative and all laughing and fun, then i don't undestand how this is «Negative attitude».

Second, i do not understand how natural responses to someone trolling like : «shut up, stfu, stop trolling», ( do not use «kill urself %%%», just a tip) as a response) are bannable offenses. I knew Tribunal was bad but at this point...really?

The funny part is that Trolls can run away freely and go ruin other people's games without any punishement

Note* Please take in account that the harsh words were in respond to trolls. I would never, ever, go and harrasse people for any reason, so shouldnt you.

I got a chat ban, so riot sent a mail with all the «negative» comments I said. The funny thing is that i actually took a real example that i really said (gg 10/10 report noobs, about the fail invade) and they actually used this with other things to justify my chatban, when it was not even negative, it was in a fun context.

That's the thing though; to you it's just a fun context but to others it wasn't. What's funny to you may not be funny to others. Now if you had put "jk" after it then people might've understood that you were just joking around, but since you didn't it gave the impression that you were serious about that, which combined with the rest of your chat from game 1 is honestly not a bad assumption to make on their part honestly.

The concept of taking the shit from people is beyond me. I do not understand the mentality behind the way of thinking «just suck it up» some people wont take this shit from others so deal with it, i personnally don't think that having a fking spine deserves a chat ban.

You can defend yourself as long as it's done in a respectful manner. If a troll won't stop the first time you asked them to, then chances are they aren't gonna stop the fifth time you ask them to. When that happens the best thing you can do is to just mute (if needed) report and move on. The moment you start retaliating back against them in a negative fashion you force your teammates to deal with two raging trolls: the original and you. The people who say they are getting banned for talking and/or responding to trolls aren't getting banned just because they responded to a troll: they got banned because they responded in a negative manner (i.e. with rage, insults and the like directed towards the trolls).

Because this never actually stops anyone from trolling and tends to INCREASE trolling.

Nothing you say will stop a troll from trolling. Once someone has decided to go through the act of trolling there is nothing you can do to talk them out of it. At best you can mute them, keep playing, and hope that if your team is winning hard enough (despite the troll) that the troll will then join in and help you achieve victory. But from my experiences this never happens. A true troll (someone who makes the conscious decision to ruin the game for their team) has already established a set frame of mind. If your team starts doing well, they will troll all the more, including telling the other team when you're doing baron and the like. They will steal your buffs only to die to the enemy team's strongest person.

There isn't a way to stop them from trolling or to increase their trolling. Trolling is an absolute.

I disagree. Because you are implying that you know, at all times, if they are going to start trolling. I'm saying that there's a point where a person is having a bad time that if you push at them rather than remain polite, you will push them to go further.

And even EVEN if you are correct, which I disagree with in most cases, as you said, the best case scenario is a mute regardless.

Unlike the rest of the country (and world at large) Riot Games doesn't believe that context is important. If you say bad words it means that you are a toxic person and they don't want you playing their game. There is never any justification for directing any form of anger towards another person. In this way the game mirrors real life, where any outward form of anger is socially unacceptable. In real life, any person who lashes out at another person is toxic. Even if that person they lashed out at had raped and murdered their mother, society still views this as unacceptable.

At worst they are trolling you, berating you, egging you on, criticizing you, calling you names or bullying you--all perfectly acceptable things to do in society, and all things that no one should ever display anger over. Just learn to walk away and tattle on them. That's what civilized people do.

With all the people complaining about their punishments I'd say Riot is at least making some headway. No we will never get all obnoxious Jerks to adhere to the rules but Riot can and is trying to.

You seem to miss the obvious thing here, OP. You do not HAVE to respond to trolls. You can turn them off. In the real world, there is little you can do to make someone stop talking. On the internet, hit mute, and you never see that person's chat again for the rest of the game. And if you block them, you never see their chat again...ever. See how that works?

When you respond to trolls by fighting fire with fire, you can get burned too. And if you're reported and a Riot GM thinks it's valid, you will be. All to make you feel better about yourself? Doesn't seem worth it to me.

From the Tribunal FAQ:

That player in my game was far worse than me. Why am I banned??? I'll keep this one simple: those other players in your game that you thought were worse are probably also banned. Nearly 100% of the time, those players were banned even before you were. If someone is being toxic, just report them and move on.

We strongly believe that it is not OK to retaliate. If a player refuses to cooperate and says something negative, then players should ignore the player and report them after the game. Players can ignore or mute players by pressing the “Mute” button on the Scoreboard [when you hit TAB] in the game.

If a player retaliates and says something bad back, then the two of you have made a negative experience for potentially the other 8 players in the game. Rarely do teams start working together better when players begin fighting back—great games only happen when players cooperate and don’t make the issues even worse by fighting back and forth.

What's the point of having a language filter if I can get banned for 'adult' language? We aren't out to punish players who use adult language; in fact, very few players are ever banned for saying stuff like "f***, I missed that skill shot" or "damn, fing close game!" However, the language filter is not an excuse to verbally abuse someone in the game. When you verbally abuse or harass someone by calling them "fing *****" or "ngger noob", that's when you've crossed the line and will be punished by the Tribunal. I've said this before and I'll say it again, we aren't trying to clean online games of adult language; we're trying to reform or get rid of jerks who like to verbally abuse and harass other players.

Why is verbal abuse punishable if there is a mute button/language filter? Players shouldn’t need to rely on features like the mute button or language filter to engage with other players in positive ways. When a player verbally abuses another player and forces him to use the mute button, they have already created a negative experience for that player.
