Seriously Riot?

Naming and shaming is against the boards universal rules. Just report the guy, geez.

Dope Solo1 votes

What are you talking about? I just did.

Drugoth1 votes

No, report it in game or in a support ticket, this thread will just end up getting deleted shortly and you will have accomplished nothing.

Dope Solo2 votes

I've got someone to read it. That's accomplishment. If holding people accountable for filth is against the TOS, its the TOS that's wrong.

ModPeriscope1 votes

hopefully you reported them post-game. That should be sufficient.

He isn't naming and shaming. he blocked out the first part of his name.

Drugoth1 votes

Anyone can guess what those asterisks represent... Also, what's the point of this thread at all? He says "Really Riot?" like they're the ones at fault for that user creating that username...

Shouldnt the suffix 'inmyoven' be automatically prohibited in the first place? At a minimum, flagged for inspection? This just seems negligent.

Drugoth1 votes

No automated system is perfect, some things are going to inevitably slip through. That's where reporting comes in. There is nothing negligent about it, they simply didn't think of someone using a suffix like that.

Dope Solo1 votes

I didn't comment on whether the automated system was 'perfect'. I asked if the suffix should automatically be flagged for inspection. This should be an easy fix. Now that you've seen it for yourself, you should be able to provide this question with a simple yes/no answer. Should the suffix 'inmyoven', be flagged for inspection - Yes or No?

Drugoth1 votes

Do I believe personally that the suffix "inmyoven" should be flagged? No

The part that matters is the object that precedes the suffix that completes the statement.

For example, an excited new mother could decide to choose "Buninmyoven" which isn't offensive at all.

Pizzainmyoven, Lasagnainmyoven, etc ad nausium. You get the point.

Dope Solo1 votes

I'm just going to go ahead and say you're wrong. I don't know outright what Riots capabilities are, but it seems to me that a flag for at least a check constitutes minimum effort for an automated system. That said, maximum incompetence is already on display for allowing the first 4.

Drugoth1 votes

If the first 4 letters are what the core of the issue is, why even ask me if I think the suffix after it should be flagged at all? You're confusing as hell, man.

Dope Solo1 votes

I would propose that just the last 4 are suspicious, again minimum effort required to verify. On a similar note, I can't even spell Kassadin on my own rune page without getting ***.

waaaaaah I found something to complain about waaaaaah

Drugoth2 votes

Hey man, I may disagree with OP but what you're doing is not cool.

Mig891 votes

true. i apologize. Just skimming through the boards more and more lately and it seems the riot bashing is just getting worse in the sake of just bashing riot. This guy seriously wants inmyoven to be flagged right off the bat.

Drugoth1 votes

Honestly, it wouldn't really matter if Riot decided to have "inmyoven" flagged. Just because something is flagged doesn't mean that it will automatically force a name change. It just means that the summoner name would be flagged for review for a final decision to be made.

Sometimes the Riot bashing gets to me too, but that is not the way to react to it lol.

Drugoth1 votes

Riot is already aware about the runepage filter issues and they said they're working on it. As for "oven" being a flaggable word for summoner names? That's highly debatable. In my opinion, an oven by itself is not offensive or threatening, it's the context added to it that should be considered.

Dope Solo1 votes

What I'm really saying is that if Riot can't figure out how to filter out the very obvious, seen here the preceding prefix, then they probably need to apply even more stringent contexts, thus the suffix string.

ModPeriscope1 votes

He's not saying this player was toxic/inting/whatever, I think we're just having a conversation about inappropriate/appropriate names. Naming yes, shaming no.

Drugoth1 votes

Regardless, the tone of his post suggests that he's throwing shade at Riot, blaming them for missing something that he feels is obvious. I doubt he intended to start a dialogue about inappropriate names in general or there would be more to his post than just "Really Riot?".

Dope Solo1 votes

Given that the 4-character string that I blanked out refers specifically to an ethic/religious group, I do find it negligent of Riot for this to have gotten through. I'm not even sure how many words can be spelled using the first 4 as a requirement. That by itself should be enough for a flag.

Drugoth1 votes

The next time you want to have a discussion about something like this, can you add a bit more content to your thread? Otherwise it just makes the post look like a passive aggressive attack on Riot.

Humans make mistakes, maybe this word that precedes the suffix was overlooked. Either way, simply reporting this person after the match would have been enough to flag it for Riot to see and make an action on it.

I honestly can't even think of a 4 letter word for an entire ethnic/religious group personally, so I can see how it was missed. (I don't pay attention to religion closely)

Dope Solo1 votes

The context as I presented was good enough for its intent. I find your claim of a having an under-informed vocabulary vapid and unconvincing.

Drugoth1 votes

It's not a claim, I'm literally at a loss for what the first 4 letters could be. I'm assuming it's some kind of slur that refers to an ethnic group or religion? Sorry if I'm undereducated in slurs and insults. I don't tend to use them personally.

ModPeriscope1 votes

In 3sheets' defense, I totally thought it was "shit" or "fuck" but it's a much darker meaning.

Dope Solo1 votes

I think sheets that your self-professed ignorance is probably a good indicator for the requirement of having informed/aware individuals making the important decisions.

OnlyYouCanHearMe1 votes

It's not just you mate. I don't have the foggiest idea of what the first four letters could be. Maybe it's because I'm a bit older than the average league player, but I don't know what the significance behind "in my oven" actually is. I'm going to assume that since this is the internet, and everyone on the internet is 5 and a pervert at least a little, it's got some sort of sexual connotation? Maybe? Help? I don't know?! Back in my day it meant the place where you baked cookies!

But as to a 4 letter word that refers to an ethnic group or religion, I can't think of one either. The only ones I can think of are either 3 or 5 letters, so I'm really confused as to what this could be.

But I suppose my confusion doesn't really matter. The main thing, is that the OP, and anyone who sees an offensive name, should use the in-client report function to report the name after a match, or submit a ticket with the player's IGN to Riot Support. While it's possible to make a filter that is increasingly stricter towards words that are not allowed, it doesn't make sense to have it moderate out words that are not offensive simply because someone, somewhere, can find a way to make it offensive. Rather than make the word "oven" a banned word, because someone can use it in this context, Riot relies on players reporting offensive names. Which works quite well.

Casual Anne2 votes

All you can do is report them after the match for an inappropriate name. Trust me, I've seen some horrible ones coming up more and more lately. If you want to make sure Riot gets your report you can also send in a support ticket. That name is really fucked up.

Blutseuche1 votes

I know this is NA where in some countries "Red Riding Hood" is prohibited because she is underage and has wine in her package, but why is a phrase from "Hansel and Gretel" offensive?

Mizuki Zahra1 votes

oven = womb and womb is blocked by system cause its considered sexual by riots standards, the person is preggo and advertising it online that's all, its a common phrase among women 2017 sensitivity just ruined it.
