Dunkey was right!

Dunkey was right. You should be able to call players scumbfuck degenerates with no penalty. League is a video game that people love to rage at each other in. Just watch any stream. High elo players are incapable of finishing a game without cursing about what absolute pieces of shit their brain dead teammates are. I think that probably 10% of players enjoy trash talking in this manner, from my experience playing league. The number would probably be higher if they weren't afraid of getting reported.

Now, I agree that the prisoner island idea is bad. So riot should simply allow a trash talk setting for people who enjoy trash talking while playing league. These people's messages would not be seen by younger kids or those who dislike trash talk. Sounds simple and would make the game much more enjoyable for countless players.

I mean, look at Dunkey. He was "toxic" and had literally millions of views on his funny videos every time one came out. The highest watched streamer is T1, who has 30,000 people watching him constantly and is the highest viewed streamer. He, and the rest of his fans, would obviously love the ability to start talking shit again in chat. I think that the Boards overestimate the number of people who agree with them that banter should be not allowed. If the boards view was some absolute majority, then you simply can't explain the popularity of content creators such as Dunkey and T1.

That's your opinion - not the opinion of the vast majority of players.

League is a video game that people love to rage at each other in.

Maybe you do. Again, the vast majority of players don't.

High elo players are incapable of finishing a game without cursing about what absolute pieces of shit their brain dead teammates are.

Interesting hypothesis. Data to back this up?

These people's messages would not be seen by younger kids or those who dislike trash talk

So.. you're saying the solution is to make it impossible for people who want to trash talk to communicate with those who don't want to see trash talk at all? You think the solution to a toxic communication problem is to limit communication to only people who are "okay with" trash talk?

I think that the Boards overestimate the number of people who agree with them that banter should be not allowed.

It's estimated based on the Tribunal and current report statistics, which showed and still do show that players don't want flaming in League. Banter is fully allowed. Trash talk is allowed in moderation. Flaming, harassment, and abuse are not. "scumbfuck" is not trash talk/banter - it's flaming.

Absolutely not.

League is a video game that people love to rage at each other in.

If people want to rage at each other, they should do it in some other medium - Discord, TeamSpeak, Skype, what have you. People play League of Legends to play League of Legends, not to yell at others and be jerks.

I think that the Boards overestimate the number of people who agree with them that banter should be not allowed.

Where has the boards even remotely stated "Banter should not be allowed"?

Oh, oh, wait. I know what this is. Lemme put this here in boldface:

Shit-talk, flaming, harassment, and toxicity are not banter. Banter is friendly, good-natured jabs. Do not mistake "being an asshole" with "having banter". Seriously.

I've seen some of Dunkey's League of Legends videos, and, frankly, as funny as some of them were, I would absolutely loathe to have to deal with him in-game.

Is it hypocritical that I had a laugh or two over Dunkey's nonchalant toxicity, but still feel that it's for the better he was banned? Probably, I dunno. But, at the end of the day, Riot sets out some very simple rules for us to follow. If you can't be bothered to follow those rules, Riot can't be bothered to have you playing their game.

Dunkey also decided to move on to other games when he wasn't enjoying this one, so if you're going to take a play from his playbook take that one too.

Dunkey's & Tyler1's shit-talking may be considered "funny" to the viewers, but what about their teammates who got stuck with them? Ever thought about how they felt being talked down like that? Don't give me that "just mute" bullshit, you do know mute AND report can be done together.

If they want to talk crap, they might as well do it with a premade group of friends, not with strangers who has no idea what's going on & getting insulted for no reason.

Just watch any stream. High elo players are incapable of finishing a game without cursing about what absolute pieces of shit their brain dead teammates are.

Just because streamers or pro players do it, that doesn't make it acceptable. Don't conflate saying "absolute pieces of shit" vs typing it.

The boards doesn't have a majority of players, so I don't think that's an accurate statement. You allude pretty frequently to a majority of people, but state that T1 has (30,000) people watching him constantly. That's pretty far from a majority of League players.

You do realize that Dunkey lied in that video right? Lyte confirmed it when he was asked about it while he worked at Riot:

What do you think about vgdunkey's ban? It's really unfortunate. Many Rioters love Dunkey's content, and I've unloaded my share of "Not even close babyyyyy" jokes around the office; however, we really can't show favoritism to someone just because they are a pro or a known content creator. This isn't really a debate about whether trashtalking is OK or not OK in games; we've talked a lot in the past about how we're OK with players bantering with their friends but you should be careful when interacting with strangers who may not understand your intentions--especially if you're using hate speech or slurs. We have a zero tolerance policy against hate speech, racism, homophobia, and sexism and that policy stands whether you're a random player, a pro player, or a Youtube celebrity.

This also really wasn't a case about intentional feeders and whether it's OK to be toxic towards other toxic players--there wasn't even a Malphite in the game that got him banned and either way, retaliation just isn't OK because it makes the experience worse for everyone else in the game.

We know that players have been asking us to be more aggressive against intentional feeders for awhile, and it has taken us a bit longer than we'd like. We do consider gameplay toxicity just as serious as verbal toxicity, and are launching a new Intentional Feeder Detection system in 5.18 that can ban feeders within 15 minutes of matches. We're starting with conservative settings to make sure the system would not ban players for having the rare bad game, even if it was a 0-10 type of bad game but this is a great first step to aggressively tackling intentional feeders.

At the end of the day, this incident sucks for everyone. We respect that Dunkey hasn't posted his Reform Card, and I'm not going to post it either. Best wishes to him in the future.

Also to quote Baron Barian:

There's trash talking, and then there's talking like trash. Don't think twice before you talk. Think 5 times.

There are a lot of people that like to watch others be jerks.

But don't like being stuck in a room with one.

Dunkey was toxic and got we he deserved: a swift 14 day ban

If you learn anything from him, it's that no one, not even youtubers or streamers, is above the rules. If you can't handle it, Heroes of the Storm is free to play and it'll hold your hand the whole time.

[sg-lux-2] Why do people think trash talk is the same as straight up flaming and harassing?

BigBellBrute3/27/2018, 4:17:19 AM1 votes

He didn't just call someone that. Although that alone was bad enough. He told them they should be gunned down in the street. He deserved his ban and cried about it. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

As for 30k views on stream all a girl has to do is show her chest and she'll quickly get 30k before she is banned.

Prisoner's Island exists. There is no way it doesn't.

This game is bloody intolerable right now. 80 pct of the games have a premeditated troll.

Either someone is attacking this game en masse, or Riot has stopped caring.

It has NEVER been this bad.
