Reports do nothing?

When is this fallacy going to stop being perpetuated? I can't count the times I've seen confirmation on my reports resulting in punishment, and the dozens of topics per hour on the boards also tell a different story. I'm tired of warning people they're heading for a report if they shape up only to hear "go ahead, reports do nothing lol". It's so junior high. It reminds me of the way my classmates used to try to bluster and act fearless when someone would warn about telling the teacher. Usually, they said this because they were afraid of a reprimand.

You're not fooling anyone. I know you're afraid of a ban when you say this, and if you're afraid of a ban, just apologize and shut your mouth for the rest of the game. That's all you need to do. I warn you not to taunt you, but in the hopes that you see what your behavior is mutating into and put a stop to it. I don't enjoy reporting people, it's a pain. Don't continue giving me a reason and I won't want to.

I haven't seen a confirmation on my reports for over a year, so in my eyes the reports aren't working for me personally. I know some people still get punished, but my reports don't seem to be doing anything to get anyone punished - not even kyssers and other "instant punishment" worthy people. How do I know that? Instant suspension punishment people are playing the next day without any problems even though he was reported by me (and possibly other people). They should not be able to do so if they actually received their punishment.

I most certainly am not afraid of being punished myself, since I do not do anything wrong; I play to win and don't stop until one of the nexii goes boom, I don't abuse chat or pings, I surrender only rarely and never initiate the surrender vote myself. .. so I guess you were talking about some other people at the end of your first chapter. However, there are people whose reports do not work. I have met (online & RL) players with similar experience about their reports. I guess Riot has some kind of False Reporter Black List in place, to which some people end up for some reason or other, and once you are on it, your reports don't do anything and you most likely are unable to get out of the list.

Rito needs so much more education and visibility on the system before people will start changing their attitude.

Then again, I say the "go ahead, reports won't do anything to me" all the time, as I know what is considered punishable offenses and I don't cross that line.
