Permaban for toxic chat shouldn't be a thing. and here's why

the argument is, that if someone's toxic, they'll end up feeding or, "Spamming pings" anyway, im not gonna go into spamming pings because thats pretty pointless, but allot of people know the fine line between feeding and being toxic, no one would ever start feeding on their account because they know its a garentee'd ban, eventually. If you perma mute these players, It can just solve the problem then and there, They won't be tempted to type in chat, they won't be enticed by other players voices, it'll pretty much gut them from being toxic, Now if they start feeding and really ruining games, thats probably a time to ban them, because if they feed, well they know whats coming to them, if their toxic. just give them a permamute, It doesnt hurt, as bad as a perma ban and its just a better and less punishing way to go, Opinions from rito maybe?

Personally I'm fully for toxicity being a permaban offense. I don't want people who are willing to be toxic in my games. Sure everyone has a bad day, but most people know self control, and these people either don't have self control or simply do not care. In either case I'd rather not have them around, and Riot seems to agree.

Toxicity isn't about words, it's about thinking. Toxic people have difficulty showing other human beings respect simply for being human beings, and it's not likely something they will learn on their own. Some don't even fully recognize that the people they are playing with are actual, real people with thoughts and lives of their own. I know that sounds ridiculous, but it's unfortunately true. I'd love for someone to teach it to them, however until someone figures out how to do that the most realistic approach is to punish them until they stop doing the punishable action.

You know what they say, you can only beat your head against a brick wall so many times before you learn better or the wall wins.

Punish them until they stop doing it? that is absolutely absurd. Once it gets to that point its not teaching them an ideology or some sort of morality, but rather a "follow these rules or deal with the consequences of not doing so." You cant really apply it to a real society, and although its easier for a corporation to apply it for the users of its product compared to a religion or a government that doesn't mean it actually makes moral or legal sense. Saying something should have 0 actual results on a game, if it does then it just shows susceptibility ( positive OR negative), it no longer becomes about the game itself but rather a state of mind. Once it becomes that you have to deal with ALL (all) questionable and subjective material otherwise you will definitely become a hypocrite along the way. I guess what i want to know is what is the statement that your trying to make? What value do these statements hold when compared to other statements? Once you start punishing people ( causing a harm to them) you better be able to prove that they have actually done something harmful and not arbitrary

Riot specifically deletes posts on the boards that are disrespectful toward other people, regardless of language or tone. They apply this to their game too, and so I don't think it's too far of a stretch to say they are thinking about the state of mind here. They want League to be sportsmanlike, and given the general state of the internet it's going to be a long process regardless of what they try. Why do you think they really moved to an automated system?

I'm not going to touch on your society/government point as I think my response will be a little too political for the boards here, but to sum it up it doesn't really matter as everyone who plays League agreed to the terms before they played. Riot didn't say "follow our rules or else", they said "If you want to play follow these rules". If you follow the rules you get to play, if you don't follow them then you don't get to play. It's less of a punishment, and more of a retraction of services. Riot doesn't even have to prove it, as we've all agreed to let Riot terminate our accounts for ANY reason, good or not.

I wasn't making one. All I was doing was throwing my opinion out there. The OP wanted an opinion from Riot on his idea, and since it's unlikely a Rioter will reply I put my own opinion out there in the hopes it would help him.

Did we go over this already? Riot has decided that most players who don't change their toxic attitude and keep getting chat restrictions just transfer their toxicity to gameplay if they can't talk. It was proven to not help; the people that are getting banned now with the new system are the ones that had hundreds of chat restrictions before because the consequences were not harsh enough.

Your mis looking at cause and effect. People who murder other people have a full understanding that they will ( hopefully) go to jail. adding harsher punishments in a GAME filled with OTHER people. is statistically only really likely going to affect the people who dont really care, in which case you cant say you did anything. If you really want to doctor a mentality of morality or " dont say mean things" you will never convince people of it by punishing those do don't oblige. Lets say i was banned. i would just make a new account, my mentality hasn't changed so it's likely that my ( or yours, or anyones) speaking habits will change. Another issue is that how can someone really claim emotional damage from the mean things that someone said to them? If im offended i have the abilty to mute the offendee or to simly the right to disregard what they say, making my " Ive been wronged" case significantly weaker every different statement is going to be held at some subjective account, which makes the system about appeasing people rather than some sort of justice or law or moral.

I'm not missing cause and effect, I am merely explaining Riot's policy. Thanks for your input, but I agree with Riot.
