Something I consider when being cursed at...
I don't know if this will help many people but I find it useful. It really does help me control my responses to toxicity in game.
In situations where someone starts cursing at me for a bad play (either I legitimately messed up or they are raging), I try to remember that this game is open for 13+ year old players. I'm an older gamer and so I try to imagine what would happen, in person, if this situation happened? Specifically, I just imagine the person cursing me out might actually be 13 or 14 or so. Would I start cursing or screaming back to someone that young?
I wouldn't because I don't think that's necessarily appropriate behavior.
I have no idea how old my teammates are so I just assume if someone is acting childish that they may actually be a child. In which case, the best thing for me to do (for my own sanity) is just to ignore them. Like I might a child throwing a temper tantrum. Running up middle? AFKing? It might just be someone very young throwing a tantrum out of frustration. It makes it easier for me to ignore them even though I am most likely very frustrated.
This is just my own personal approach to verbal abuse that I try to follow as often as I can.
