"You are responsible for everything happening on your account" stance is unnaceptable...

As long as Riot doesn't provide it's players with even the bare minimum of account security.

I played a lot of other online games, and if I get on a fresh computer IP and want to connect to my: -Steam or SWTOR account I have to type in a code from my COMPLETELY FREE app designed specifically for account safety -Guild Wars 2 account I first receive an SMS code which I have to type in -Battle.net or Wildstar I have to verify my email -League? Nip. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

Come on, Riot. You own one of biggest names in gaming industry and the most succesful MOBA. Yet you don't give a damn about account security. Not even a two-step verification, yet alone SMS or authenticator app. I'v played 3rd grade Korean MMOs with better account security than biggest MOBA has. Something has to give here.

EDIT: I wasn't punished due to account stealing, so this isn't a post complaining about punishment. It is simply my voice of concern over lack of security features. I did get my account stolen once tho but recovered it without much hassle - fortunately, thief didn't break any major rules. If the thief was any more malicious however, they could've got the account permanently banned far too easily - a simple use of N-word or K-abbreviation in one game would've been enough.

Great post! I agree some 2-step would be nice, especially when CC's are used to make micro-transactions.

I've switched from one computer to another without issue. I don't think that's what got you punished. My bad. I should go through some reading comprehension courses.

If riot detects weird stuff going on with your account, they temporarily ban and email you lol

TOTP is free and relatively easy to implement even at Riot's insanely huge scale. But yeah, even an email verification would be a huge win.

Why you so made. I like their terms of use.

If im not mistaken arent they in talks about getting a 2-step program coming out? I doubt they would want to use 3rd party, especially with something like those phone 2-step arent as reliable. Its best if there was something Riot could make themselves. With that said, you should be regularly changing passwords and not giving said account information to people, let alone doing stupid stuff like getting malware on your computer from downloading random crap. Any of that is out of Riot control and lies solely on the person.

I do agree two factor authentication should at the very least be an option; but the stance they have is literally the only feasible one. Unless they are able to hold somebody accountable, they could pretty much just get rid of all the rules and punishments; at least if they cannot verify that your account was indeed compromised.

And that last part is a crucial part of their stance. They have reversed punishments in the past that were committed by hackers. But if they can't find evidence of your account being compromised they really don't have much of a choice... otherwise everybody could get away with everything.
