Anyways Its my community's word and it's used very liberally within the gay community in my area, it is only viewed as offensive by those who are insecure in their sexuality or by straight people who want to try to defend us as if we can't stick up for ourselves.
I'm going to keep using the term because A.) it disempowers it and B.) The offensiveness of the term varies greatly depending on where you're from. only straight people and teenagers find it offensive in my area.
Now please don't bring your "Gays should comply with my party's message" subcultural appropriation in here because quite frankly that mindset is deeply bigoted and belittling, it matters not what words are used when someone with a knife is saying they want to stab you because of your sexuality, when its on that level being called a poopface is just as bad as being called a %%%, trust me because i have been there, last year at pride specifically
I've seen people reduced to shadows of themselves because they feel like outcasts because the 'pro-lgbt allies' paint a mould of what they're supposed to be, and they get shut down by people like you who assume we aren't just people, and we can't handle a word. You can't imagine your whole life being that type of persecution, and finally now that it's fucking hip to stand up for us you do it as if you ever actually cared. If you cared about how people are treated then you'd focus more on the dudes freezing to death in nyc and less on the naughty fucking words. go be trendy somewhere else.
Also the constant accusations and alienation of other mindsets and points of view by the modern left wing establishment is what gave credence to these numbnut alt right idiots. They gained massive support as a direct result of moderates from the democratic, republican, and various independent parties being silenced to an extent that the only platform they felt they had was with paul spencer.
I don't think it is trendy, so much as the group that used the f-word liberally as an insult is finally at an age where it struck that maybe we should back off. Same with calling something 'gay'. I was asked not to by lbgt friends, and it took me a year to come to grips with it.
I think the community will always be split over using it liberally or to not use it because it is demeaning. See the n-word. So, alright, neither side represents the whole community. But it IS hate speech and therefore Riot doesn't want it around. You can say it all you want to your friends and you are welcome to it, but since you are in what is basically a public place, you should control your language, as you would any other public place.
