Don't flame your teammates. You might be doing poorly, they might be doing poorly, you might be losing, but don't flame your teammates. Be nice.

Play your best and don't leave the game even when it looks hopeless, you take away many chances of "a come back" by doing so, and it isn't nice.

Don't join queue if you aren't sure you can commit 40+ minutes to a game. Excessive leaving can also end up weighing against you towards punishments.

Probably because I'm 32 and have been gaming since I was four years old and come from a time people didn't get banned when they told someone they were playing poorly. Honestly. I just don't even chat. I imagine the player bases isn't all 12 year olds who accept and understand being offended by everything.

I live by the " say something nice or nothing at all " mindset now. I just report the people who go 0-10 and force a forfeit @ 15. That's what riot prefers. :D

I'm basically taking the side of anyone who got banned for saying " stop feeding " to the 0-10 ruining their games. That should not be punishable. Unless you're actually being hateful or cruel, no one should be punished.

This is exactly the kind of attitude that doesn't benefit from threads like this. People should be banned for giving their teammates flak with no benefit. What exactly do you expect someone to do when you tell them to stop dying? They were already trying to do that. Calling it out will just make them feel worse, and play worse. This harassment should be and is punishable, whether you like it, understand it, and agree with it, or not.

Honestly, this thread is just upvote farming without actually helping anyone.

Yes, the people on the receiving end of swearing and insults are to blame for being sworn at and insulted. Not the person doing the actual swearing and insulting. That makes sense. Playing poorly forces other people to misbehave.

the only thing lol is lacking is the fact that you are getting punished for other players bad play, when you are 20/2 with 200 farm in 30 min and you have full build and you took nashor you shouldnt lose -20 lp, Lp gains and loses should be opted to your performance in game, maybe they dont want give players of winning team less LP but they should certainly fix it for losing team so better players lose less, that will fix +70% problems of game.

So because trash-talking has been common throughout time players who have a bad game therefore have an obligation to put up with being treated badly? Even saying "omg stop feeding top 0-10, afk" etc (the type of thing you referred to) is scolding and talking down to someone. If you actually afk you automatically ruin a game that might have been won, or atleast could have still been fun for a while. (unless ofcourse the score is 25-7 or something in which case I understand why u'd be opening) These actions are disrespectful and can ruin the fun of the game, even if it doesn't ammount to being hateful or cruel. True, some people take it better than others, but why should the sandard be set by what rather tolerant people can put up with, rather than human decency, respect for other human beings, and the promotion of a fun environment?

You mentioned banter at the end, but what you previously said isn't competative friendly banter at all. Also you have to be immensely toxic or a consistent negative influence on the teammates you are playing with to get banned. You don't just say the ocasional line like '/all ugh team too heavy' and get banned.

It's also not the case that people generally used to put up with people treating their teammates badly in the past. In pro sports you can be fined and supsended for 'chirping' and trashtalking etc. In fact violence in pro sports aagainst teammates is rather common because that's how a lot of athleats choose to regulate indecency. Respect is a basic human value that humans have promoted since we evolved to be human.

The only thing you MUST deal with is teammates initially, and if your teammate or someone on the enemy team should you adjust settings says something that upsets you? Mute them.

There are far too many tools at the disposal of the " victim " to completely remove the problem for people to be banned over simple words on a screen.

If they are calling names and actually being abusive or using hate speech. Fine. Ban them. Some of the bans people post in behavior are really weak though...

In my personal opinion. people who go 0-15 often should be banned as a much higher priority than people typing garbage in the chat. I still sand by my user name. No chat system. Pings are all we need.

So all players (since all players have bad games) have an initial obligation to endure the toxicity that comes their way because they can prevent it from continuing by muting etc? That is what follows from deciding that it's more important to not punish toxic chatters than it is to ensure people are treated respectfully via discouraging toxic chat through puishments, as what is implicit is the rights of toxic chatters take priority and thus impose that obligation on others to endure the initial abuse.

That would be considered an obligation because it's a result of other's rights and moral principles being considered necessitating the situation in which they have to put up with the initial abuse. You couldn't dismiss ppl having to put up with the abuse as a unfortunate fact of the world we live in -not an obligation- when you have considered everything in a moral sense and decided the rights of toxic chatters are more important than the rights to not be abused. People having to put up with the abuse, ethically speaking, would be 100% a requirement under the moral rules you've set in place, and thus an obligation. Is that obligation fair and sensible?

Why should there be no chat system in league when the majority of ppl aren't toxic and want a chat system? Why should stopping toxic players by having no chat system, probably the most extreme and burnening-on-everyone solution, be the option used?

Can you please back up what your saying with some ethical reasoning?

I brought up ethics because I believe what you are saying is intellectually and morally inconsistent. It sounds like you are presenting what you personally prefer as a moral rule that should be followed when in fact it isn't because it is inconsistent. Can you further back up what your saying with moral reasoning and examples as I have? I'm all ears as I love debates.

If people are having to mute people to stop seeing the abuse/disrepect etc that means they have had to endure it intitially before muting. The fact that it can be very brief doesn't make it not abusive/disrespectful etc. Even if it is minor it is still something that people shouldn't be subjected to; it's suposed to be a fun gaming environment. Basic human decency still applies, even if people have a bad game despite trying. Is it ok to to throw food, paint etc on people's cars if they can easily clean it off and stop it from continuing? Should there be no deterrance or punishment for doing that if the problem could easily be prevented from continuing? Is it ok to be rude at a resteraunt to someone nearby you because they can easily move to a table further away and not continue to be subjected to the rudeness? Should everyone do nothing about it because the person can just move away?

I remember back when you'd load into a MW2 lobby and people would be calling you everything under the sun and you could trash talk as much as you wanted to, I was 13 when that game came out but now i don't have the energy to be wasting my time on them, i usually go with "okay retard you're muted" and then enjoy the bliss of silence.

because it is true, imagine this game as real life. in real life you have a team, in biggest look you are a human on earth, look closer your team is your country, city, area, apartment and finally your family. imagine you got bad family in this game, i say for example you are bill gates and your parents are bad ones, then you still get rewarded if you play game (=life) good even though you had a bad team. but in League no matter how good you played you still get punished same as your teammate, that is why I dont play league, It is not fun at all to lose many games because your team was trash and losing point is same even more than winning. it should look at your play performance that game and decides how good you played and it is really easy to be coded they just dont want to but i dont know why? this was a review from a straight A+ student, this game can easily be much more fun. although only fun in LoL for me is playing ranked i dont know about other modes. (this is not my main account) and the fact that you cant flame your teammate when you are losing because they are bad not an acceptable thing for anyone, imagine in real life you already can not have a high income because your parents are poor, look for bill gates for example or many others. even in other games that are being played as team (soccer , basketball &...) you still get rewarded only for your performance. if you are cr7 or messi nobody looks at real madrid or barcelona state they just look at your performance and pay you higher and it is true every where. other games that dont have a rating and ranking system i say for example cs1.6 and cs:source that i played for a long time before anti cheats stop supporting game, you or some one pick players, it means no noob could join your team because nobody would pick team until they play on fun modes and become strong. Riot games must relook at their games and real reasons for its upcoming death upon bad matchmaking and ranking system , but their decision is putting higher and higher punishments on toxic people, they think toxic people are toxic mentally, but it is not true 99% of times and it is game design that makes them toxic. sure you stop playing soon after finding how game works as I did, i had +400 skin and my rank was d5 on my main and I just stopped playing, game designer should either study more or employ someone with psychology science degree or just copy how other games works. only thing that is delaying league death is the fact that many newbies and noobs cant carry games and lose, but when you are in a point that you lose your ranked games all with 15/5 kda and 200 farm in 25min with herald and drakes taken you realize this game is trash, because you get punished for others mistakes, makes no sense at all.

It's true, once the arguing starts, it's tempting to join in one way or another - agree, disagree, vent, be positive, etc. - but the truth is, most of the time you're better off shutting up. There's too many emotions - shock, anger, disappointment - to sort through, never mind anyone who's naturally rude to begin with.

Since talking - even positively - often doesn't help (or even invites more trolling, toxicity or retaliation!), you're better off quietly continuing to play and hope the "bad game" ends as fast possible so you can get on to the next one.

You are absolutely right. However is it possible, to not flame in some circumstances?

Like seriously now 3 days ago i went duo with a friend of mines. And the games were absolutely horrible (quality wise). I had 2 or 3 games in line (im not sure how to phrase that in english) where my junglers literally ignored my lane.

The first that comes to my mind is the garen (me) vs illaoi,top. I leashed his red and tanked for him. I came to lane with 3/4 of my hp. I ended up falling behind in exp and gold because apparantly illaoi with w at 1 lvl is pure cancer. She pushed throughout the whole laning phase and twitch didnt gank even once. I asked him (kindly ofc, until he outright ignored me) to come and help me. He didnt come.

Another i remember was with a fizz vs orianna. Said orianna had also barrier so me killing her solo would be difficult. I asked my jungler kayn to gank me because orianna was pushing trying to poke me, but he never did. I had fallen so behind that after 6 i couldnt kill her even if i landed my ulti from long range.

There was also another game where i was i think fizz vs ahri. I asked my jungler kha to gank her before she hits 6 and becomes a pain in the arse to gank. Spoiler alert...... he ganked! 10 seconds after ahri hit lvl 6. I used my ulti to maybe force hers, and i did. Still she had 2 more dashes to avoid kha (lvl 5 i think). Fast forward some mins ahead and she bullies me hard and i have 0 ganks, i told him to come and gank her since i can burn her ulti. But he didnt respond or even pay attention to my requests. I ended up abandoning my lane (i couldnt farm under turret without losing 45%+ of my hp) and just went to roam. Needless to say we lost and my team even blamed me xD.

Oh yeah my favourite. I had kog maw jungle, in ranked. Where he didnt gank anyone and served as a gold sack for the enemy.

Anyway my comment devolved in a rant, but my point is that riot really doesnt do anything to help you avoid flaming. They dont try to correct the root of the problem because they deem it "impossible" which really is not. It can take time and resources but its definitely not impossible.

Edit: Oke i think i was a bit misunderstood. I dont want to support flaming. I just wanted to give insight as to why flaming is a thing. And why "holding back" sometimes it just doesnt work.

When people say things like this I remember high school, when we were forced to work in groups. The hot chick was always put in my group, but I made her fail her class because on the final, when once again she was put in my group so I could essentially carry her to graduation; I gave her the wrong answers and used the correct one's myself.

You are absolutely right. However is it possible, to not flame in some circumstances?

Like seriously now 3 days ago i went duo with a friend of mines. And the games were absolutely horrible (quality wise). I had 2 or 3 games in line (im not sure how to phrase that in english) where my junglers literally ignored my lane.

The first that comes to my mind is the garen (me) vs illaoi,top. I leashed his red and tanked for him. I came to lane with 3/4 of my hp. I ended up falling behind in exp and gold because apparantly illaoi with w at 1 lvl is pure cancer. She pushed throughout the whole laning phase and twitch didnt gank even once. I asked him (kindly ofc, until he outright ignored me) to come and help me. He didnt come.

Another i remember was with a fizz vs orianna. Said orianna had also barrier so me killing her solo would be difficult. I asked my jungler kayn to gank me because orianna was pushing trying to poke me, but he never did. I had fallen so behind that after 6 i couldnt kill her even if i landed my ulti from long range.

There was also another game where i was i think fizz vs ahri. I asked my jungler kha to gank her before she hits 6 and becomes a pain in the arse to gank. Spoiler alert...... he ganked! 10 seconds after ahri hit lvl 6. I used my ulti to maybe force hers, and i did. Still she had 2 more dashes to avoid kha (lvl 5 i think). Fast forward some mins ahead and she bullies me hard and i have 0 ganks, i told him to come and gank her since i can burn her ulti. But he didnt respond or even pay attention to my requests. I ended up abandoning my lane (i couldnt farm under turret without losing 45%+ of my hp) and just went to roam. Needless to say we lost and my team even blamed me xD.

Oh yeah my favourite. I had kog maw jungle, in ranked. Where he didnt gank anyone and served as a gold sack for the enemy.

Anyway my comment devolved in a rant, but my point is that riot really doesnt do anything to help you avoid flaming. They dont try to correct the root of the problem because they deem it "impossible" which really is not. It can take time and resources but its definitely not impossible.

It is definitely not impossible to flame, not in any way shape or form, unless you suffer from a, and this isn't to be insulting, a medical state of being that disallows you to be able to contain your emotions. Those are real things, but the vast majority of players do not suffer from such a condition and therefor are in control of their capacities. Grow up and be mature. I know its a kids game, but all the more reason to not put as much emotion into it.

You know, I joined several American communities in duscord and everyone pretends to be nice.

You should also really make sure you don't ask bad questions, or you are gonna get mobbed. Because as soon as you say something not politically correct, you stop being a human. Tell me more about forcing "nice" on people.

Pits of snakes. Wears down much more than getting told to kill myself once in a couple of months.

Agreed. I made a very long post in this thread earlier about how these rules enforce "fake nice" and make people more dishonest or passive aggressive. Nothing is more "toxic" than people who hide their intent behind socially accepted words. They can't make the darkest and most malicious intent clear toward you, while making it passable as plausible deniability to everyone else not involved. Context and intent are the most important parts of communication but Riot encourages the punishment process to ignore both.

Play your best and don't leave the game even when it looks hopeless, you take away many chances of "a come back" by doing so, and it isn't nice.

Don't join queue if you aren't sure you can commit 40+ minutes to a game. Excessive leaving can also end up weighing against you towards punishments.

100% True. I wish I could remember his summoner name but when i was coming back to the game I was getting completely destroyed throughout the game by the enemy Zed. I was playing LB. Think I went something like 2-14 and most of those deaths were from him. After the game he friend requested me and invited me to play some custom 1v1 matches with him to show me how to play that lane better. Did I feed? Yes. Did my team mates flame me and report me for Inting? Yes. Did I learn something because someone noticed me legitimately struggling and wanted to help? YES. I am not saying players need to go out of their way to coach each other every time they see someone else having a bad game, but advice how are bad players supposed to get better if they don't know what they don't know. Not everyone is able to see the "cause and effect" in trades or fights that end in a loss for them. Many players simply don't know what to pay attention to and what to look out for in a lot of situations. Until I got help from other players the thought of tracking my opponents spell cooldowns never even occured to me much less denying vision, following their build path and having a solid base understanding of champions base damage+items. This game is not like conventional sports where kids grow up with formal coaching through PeeWee, little league JV and Varsity. Everything is pretty much self taught which will almost always leave some sort of gap in game knowledge, reasonion, awareness and decision making. Be patient and try to actually help FIX the problem you see if you are able. Otherwise worry about your own game.
