Things new streamers do that turn away viewers!:
So you wanna be a big time streamer huh?
You wanna be that Trick2g, NB3, Gosu, WingsofDeath or any of the top self made rollin' in the viewers streamer huh?
Having spent more time watching league in the past 5 years, than actually playing league, here are several things I notice that new streamers do that lose them viewers!
- Ignore their audience.
- People come to your stream to watch, AND learn! if someone asks a question do your best to answer it. If you dont know the answer, dont make one up. try instead to send them to the right place to find the answer.
- Treat their viewers badly.
- Treat your channel like its an open house! People come to visit, invite them in, make them feel welcome! Dont make fun of them, dont scoff at their questions, and certainly dont make them feel unwelcome. Remember these viewers are your fans, they came to YOU, they will be the same ones that hit that sub button, or send you a donation question. Be polite.
- Dont be toxic! (in game)
- Nothing is more awkward than watching a streamer rage at their team in all chat. People will see that, think you are a child, or cry baby, and leave. EVEN IF ITS NOT YOUR FAULT! the viewers saw what happened, NB3 is a very good examples of this! when he has a bad game, he steps back and says "here is what I could have done better!" Dont be that guy!
- Dont be yacking on skype all the time!
- Once in a while is ok. Just remember rule 1. Overall though nobody wants to sit in a stream and listen to the streamer chattin' it up with his High School buddies. Its uncomfortable! It makes your viewers feel like the 3rd wheel, it makes it feel too personal. People want to feel important, and welcome. Treat it like you are there for your audience.
- This isn't a girl cam show.
- Female streamers do this ALL the time! by showcasing ahem certain aspects of yourself, more than game play, you are cheapening the whole experience. You are also risking getting banned, Just saying. its ok to be feminine. Just dont turn your body into the object of the stream! Dont fight with your audience. If someone comes into your stream and starts objectifying you. Hit that ban button. Dont be afraid of losing viewers because of this. People will respect you more, if you respect yourself.
- Dont over personalize your stream.
- Its ok to put a bit of personality into your stream layout, Just dont over do it. I've seen many streams that are DECKED OUT in personalized, colored up, links everywhere, over done bio's. All of these streams have 1 thing in common. I have never been back to them. People dont mind seeing your personality. Nobody likes having it stuffed in their face. Feel free to customize, just keep it toned down to an un-obnoxious level.
- Dont spam your channel in game.
- I've seen this, we all have, we'll be watching TheOddOne, or Aphromoo, and someone there will hit that copy-paste stream link every time they do something, make a kill PASTE!, get baron PASTE! get a CS. PASTE! That kind of attention starved behavior will only drew trolls and jerks to your channel and only long enough to harass you. with that in mind, some of my favorite streams I have found because of an in game message I saw while watching another streamer. That is ok. ONCE. Dont do it all game. A simple message "feel free to come see me play at www.stream/name.com" if not overused, is just fine.
and finally:
- HAVE FUN!!
- dont be all negative, dont be raging, and upset, and grouchy! people like to relax, and learn something while watching you. Be yourself, your best self. And have a good time! laugh! smile! people can tell, and will be drawn to you if you do.
So anyway, there are 8 things I've seen streamers do that kill their chances of making it.
