Preface: My senpai sits nearby and reads my stream comments for pick demands, and I follow the one getting the most votes. This time it was Yorick.

I'm 27 and it's not the first time I've played Support Yorick. <THAT GUY>: stop being stupid kid.. and pick support class or i will make sure you lose musounotakamaru : Hoo, is that a threat~? Scary, scary~ <THAT GUY>: no.. this game will lose.. i will make sure of it cause of you kid musounotakamaru : Aren't we mature! I long for the day when I'm as old and wise as you. <Teammate 2> : whats happening <THAT GUY>: i am but i hate stupid weekender moron kids like you.. dik <Teammate 3>: we lose musounotakamaru : We late 20-somethings, we can't comprehend the maturity required to ruin everyone else's game because someone made a pick we didn't like. <THAT GUY>: we will lose..

He picked Yorick ADC (he picked ahead of me). Unfortunately, I didn't get to see how it played out because someone left. All that said, you should be able to vote to kick someone from the game after it starts. This could've been a disaster for three people for a completely stupid reason. (Though I was confident I could do pretty well without him bot, I was set to take AP Nasus and go into wave clear mode.)

More seriously, you antagonized rather than trying to defuse the situation. And the completely stupid reason was because your stream wanted you to pick something silly. Both of you are at fault.

  1. I came to play a game, nobody cares to watch a game when we are the ones playing in it.

  2. Nobody is impressed honestly and it's sad that the only way they get viewers is by ruining the actual gameplay for everybody else.

  2. I agree with this too. I feel like you're targeting me with the second half of that statement, so let me assure you, that's not what's happening here. My viewers came a couple years ago when I started streaming old singleplayer 糞ゲー. After League started collapsing I mentioned it to a couple of my friends and they suggested I stream it, and since then, it's become kind of a staple of my weekend streams to let everyone pick my champion.

It's not like I throw the game. If I don't see any feasible way the champion they chose could work at the role I have, I ask for the next most popular until we find one that could. If a support with no CC whatsoever is chosen, I don't take it. If Jungle Nami is chosen, I don't take it. So on. I'm not interested in ruining anyone else's game. (I'm pretty sure Riot's done a fine job of that already.)

I teased, I wouldn't call it antagonizing necessarily. When someone comes at me with that kind of aggression out of nowhere, I usually do that. Verbal judo, sort of.

Teased. Antagonized. You actively made the situation worse rather than try to make it better.

I guess I could have tried. Experience shows it would've done nothing but reward his behavior. If he were to have gone "Man fck this, I'm not playing with support Yorick" or something, I'd have bartered an accord with him and probably changed my pick. But when someone threatens to troll the entire team right off the bat because of a pick that is honestly not even invalid, agreeing to his demands will simply make him think that being an asshole when you don't get your way works, and not every person in the game will capitulate so it causes problems for more players down the road.

Not to mention the fact that there's a very good chance he would've just said "no, you're stupid and I'm trolling this team anyway" if I'd given in. Instead, I rose to the challenge of winning despite his intended trolling. Fortunately it never came to that anyway.

Okay. Now take that same logic, your attitude, and take it from their point of view. Someone takes a very very off meta pick and gets snarky about keeping it. You may have been seen as the troll in that situation.

I suppose so. Though how I was seen doesn't matter if I don't play the troll ingame. Had I made the pick, been met with some kind of "fck troll..." or "could you maybe not pick that?", things would have gone differently. And if I'd responded to that with sarcasm and apathy I'd have definitely been in the wrong in the argument. But I still firmly believe that being attacked with the threat of actual trolling and defending with a flippant desire to win despite it puts the other party squarely in the wrong. Again, even if I was perceived as the troll at that point, it would make no difference because I had no intention of actually trolling.
