"So like, it's totally everyone else's fault. They were being rude to me. So I decided to be a complete asshole to them back! And then I got in trouble! That makes no sense!1!1!!11!! If they didn't want to hear it, they should've used the mute button or chat filter, right? Mute function and chat filters TOTALLY excuse being a complete dick to other people! SO IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT!!!1!!!11 I shouldn't get in trouble, I don't deserve it! I SPENT LIKE OVER 9000000000000000000000000000 DOLLARS ON THIS GAME, THAT MAKES ME IMMUNE TO BREAKING THE RULES!

I BET THEY WERE ALL A BUNCH OF KIDS WHO DON'T EVEN SPEND MONEY. So like, why do I get in trouble and not them! Such unfair! And like, thanks to them, now I can't get free rewards that are given to people who've been on good behavior! I've been on good behavior for 999999 years, and I've been playing since Season -9999999999999999! They were being rude to me and I was just defending myself!

Calling them f****** and s**** and telling them to go kill themselves and telling them to uninstall and/or otherwise being a complete asshole to them is totally just defending myself because THEY STARTED IT!!11!!!!1!!! So how come I can't get my rewards?!1!1!!?!! THIS IS SO UNFAIR!"

I understand where you're coming from, but I've been reading a lot of these threads, and the general consensus seems to think that fighting fire with fire isn't the way to do it, and this thread basically comes off as flaming the flamers for being punished due to their flaming. I was banned from hextech as well, but I haven't really cared enough to make a thread (I know i'll reform soon enough, as I try to be as positive as possible), and I just posted that comment in this thread and in one other thread to maybe ask people to show some mercy to the people that were banned. One thing that I learned in psychology is that positive reinforcement is extremely effective, but negative reinforcement only controls behavior due to fear, doesn't really fix the behavior, and causes a lot of mental health issues in the future, including sensitivity, aggression, and chronic anger.

I don't think it's that simple.

I earned the summoner icon for positive behavior, the Santa icon for positive behavior, the New Year's skin for positive behavior, and had the friendly ribbon before Riot decided to take away 90% of the community's ribbons.

I had one really bad day on here where I was swearing like a sailor because I was stressed out that day and didn't realize it when I logged on, and my teammates were extra toxic; like four people flaming each other, and me, even though we were ahead, and then inevitably losing. That was most of the games that day, as well.

I managed to earn myself a chat restriction in one day, after two years of positive behavior and nothing but honors and friend requests and smiley faces. Now I'm ineligible for Hextech, and being reminded of that after every game I earn an S in, and after every game teammates say the community would be more positive if there were more people like me.

Edit: Also, you're being just as toxic as most of the people crying about bans and punishments. You might want to rephrase your post to avoid unwanted bias.

Exactly. There have also been a few times where I acquired 300g for an assist, which leads to me believe that assist gold is assigned based on actual contribution to a kill, so if someone walks up and takes it, you can still get more gold than you would've for just black shielding a teammate as Morgana.

I also like how this turned into a friendly conversation about League, lol.

I hate to play Devil's Advocate, and this is hard for most people to do, but I want you to remember one thing that's kind of important to me, though I've never had so much as a chat restriction.

There are a shit ton of once toxic or even just reprimanded players out there patiently waiting on getting into Hextech rewards, who aren't posting about it, complaining, or trying to change it. And some of them may even be reformed or considering reform, if they truly needed it.

I just think it's nice to remember the silent majority every now and then.

I agree with a lot of those points. I'm actually having the same conversation in another thread, where someone brought up the point where they needed external help specifically to point out when their behavior was getting out of hand. It makes me wonder if the mind is designed to see itself as flawless until questioned from an outside source, and to what lengths does it go to prove that false perfection.

I've noticed one common theme among all of the most successful actors, successful business owners, artists, entrepreneurs, etc., and that's a support group. Nobody really ever improved themselves by themselves. Nobody gets successful by themselves. You can argue that one makes the decision to want to improve and then seeks help, but I think that even if someone wants to improve themselves, they won't know what to improve until evaluated from an unbiased third-party. A good metaphor is music production, where the general rule of thumb is that the original beat maker should never mix and master his own instrumental, because he won't really hear any errors, and think they belong in the song. It takes a third-party engineer to mix and master a song to its fullest potential. Another example more relatable to League would be someone wanting to improve their play, but when watching their recorded games, they don't see anything wrong, so they go on YouTube to watch guides on positioning and decision-making.

I think all of that translates to League pretty well, in that, people tend to forget they have a 4-man support group, and at the end of the day, we all want the same goal, which is to have fun and win. I feel like the toxic behavior comes in when one person wants to do all the work themselves and flames the instant an unexpected variable comes up that can compromise their solo glory. My favorite games are when nobody carries, everyone on the team does extremely well, and nobody trash talks the enemy team.

instead of them muting you, maybe you should mute all of them before game starts

I read this in the most valley girl accent possible.

if people were being rude to you first riot should be able to filter those cases and show them some compassion you dont know what it is to take shit from 3-8 people in a lobby and some times its just for dieing once and they go off and they proceed to no play along with you which can cause you to die more then they call you out for feeding

Troll for Trump3/20/2016, 3:48:58 AM1 votes

So what, that justifies allowing you to be a complete asshole to anyone who's trying to reform?

Do you also pick on people who are trying to live a normal life after getting out of jail?

EndlessCycle3/20/2016, 2:10:02 PM1 votes

I think its a matter of people being punished for BEING PUNISHED IN THE PAST, which is raising flags within the community. For example, if you were being sent to jail due to a retro-active law being put into place that called for everyone who served jail time within the last 10 years needs to serve another 6 months for additional rehabilitation purposes, how would you feel? Exactly.

Edit: Disclaimer: I am not exempt from Hextech Crafting, and haven't even received a chat restriction.

I don't like being punished once then punished again because riot says so.
