A Question for the Arbiters ^.^

So these past few months iv been seeing these Arbiters around the forums and they've been pretty helpful and nice overall. Id like to ask you Arbiters why you wanted to be an Arbiter and if this has changed any of your perspectives on anything. In the past, i use to play a ton of different games and try to help people in the community whether it be in-game or on the forums. Eventually i was offered to do moderation/player support for some of those games and found myself shockingly happy with the duties it entailed... I like to help people out and start up discussions among the community, it always made my day a little bit better if i was helping someone out. I'm not sure if any of you do it for the same reason i did, but i would certainty like to hear why you volunteer your time and if you find it worth it

For a TL;DR > Question 1 & 2:** Id like to ask you Arbiters why you wanted to be an Arbiter and if this has changed any of your perspectives on anything**

but i would certainty like to hear why you volunteer your time and if you find it worth it

Personally, I got into it waaaaaay long ago when the Tribunal was actually a thing. I think it was like 2013 when I started doing Tribunal stuff. I saw there was a huge need for some positive influence from the community rather than Riot, so I created a blog to help improve general behavior in League. The goal was not only to underscore how crazy ridiculous some of the things people say are, but also to give tips for improving your own behavior. Ideas on how to improve in-game were definitely the most well-received of my posts and I tried to expand on that a lot.

In August 2013 I was asked to join the Wrenchmen and help with tech support issues so I shifted my focus over there for a while. The tech support side of the boards is now relatively well-established and the avenues to find the help you need are very clear. Due to my experience in a volunteer role, I was brought on to help guide the program in it's early stages and I have to say, I think I prefer being an Arbiter.

I volunteer because I find it very valuable to connect with others in the community. You get to see a lot of different perspectives in this kind of role and while you might not find every single thing directly helpful to you, you certainly can expand your horizons from reading the thoughts of others. I love the League community, as much crap as we get sometimes. I've made a lot of really good friends through League and my life has changed a lot because of the people I've met. I wanted to find a way to give back, and volunteering on the Boards is the perfect way for me to do so.

Sorry if that was a bit long-winded! I bet some of my fellow Arbiters have some great stories to tell as well!

Great questions, and I'm always glad to share my motivations for being an Arbiter!

A huge part of me being in the Arbiter Program has to do with my previous experience within the Wrenchmen Program (Help & Support). I'd developed a passion for League of Legends and that's the reason why I joined the Wrenchmen Program; the Wrenchmen Program helped me develop a passion for the League of Legends Community which is one of the main reasons I joined the Arbiter Program. Over the past few months, I've been able to develop some great connections with other Summoners in the community, and joining the Arbiter Program has really helped me expand from just helping out in Help & Support to participate in more community discussions, whether they're in Miscellaneous, Player Behavior & Moderation, etc.

I put a lot of time into the Boards for the same reason I joined and stayed in the Wrenchmen and Arbiter Programs - I have a passion for the community and definitely think it's worth it. Being able to help a Summoner fix his/her patching issues, being able to steer a conversation in a more healthy/positive direction, being able to provide clarity to an issue are just a few of the many things I enjoy about my experience on the Boards.

As a matter of fact, I've been spending some time over on the Oceania Boards for the past few months, and we'll have something to announce over there pretty soon ;)

Thanks for your question!
