Why are toxic players I report never punished?

I was just in a game where Thresh harassed me all game. He flamed the shit out of me for "feeding" (one kill) Brand (I really suck at dodging skillshots). I was playing Yasuo. He then proceeded to tell me about what a shitty Yasuo I was, and flamed me for not roaming bot lane. He then said, "All these kids trying to learn Yasuo makes me cringe" I hit the mute button about halfway through, but the damage had been done. It sickens me to know that this incredibly toxic player is not going to be punished. This person literally made me want to deal physical harm to myself. Why are these people allowed to get away with such horrible behavior?

Reports build a case against a player for Riot and their system to handle. Individual players are not the judge, jury, and executioner.

Your report isn't useless, it is contributing to the case so that they will be punished if they continue their toxic behavior. If people were punished based on 1 valid report then almost nobody would be able to play the game; most people get a little toxic at some point, just most don't do it that often.

(And actually you can get banned for just one game of verbal toxicity. But it never seems to happen to the people who really deserve it).

That's a terrible analogy, just fyi. In your example, there is an actual, physical threat on your life. There is no such threat in a video game.

The other poster made the suggestion that fighting back is never right. I was making the suggestion that he's wrong. And if he's wrong in one instance, then maybe he's wrong in every instance.

Also, it irritates me when people say things as if they're absolutes, when really they're just opinions. "if you harass a troll you've already proven yourself wrong" ?? Really? That's a matter of opinion. In any other facet of life, if someone decides to start messing with you it's widely regarded as ok to retaliate. You're walking down the street and someone tells you to "keep your eyes on the sidewalk", you can definitely tell them, "up yours!" You wouldn't get fired from work or be an outcast from society. If someone toilet-papers the neighbor's house and you go out there to confront them, no one is going to think you're childish or some kind of deviant. Even if you cuss them out, the most you'll get is people thinking you have a bad mouth, but your wife isn't going to divorce you over it, and the government isn't going to take away your citizenship. Saying bad words and arguing aren't as big of a deal as Riot makes them out to be, particularly when said to people who deserve it.

Your logic here doesn't make any sense. Unless you are suggesting that riot is actively targeting people who respond and avoid instigators, which quite frankly is ridiculous. Both are punished. Its just that it takes more than one game for most punishments so when 2 people collide they aren't always both at the point of punishment.

I got a suspension for one single game (Rioter-confirmed) where I argued with a troll and his friend. The troll ended up with a 4% kill participation by the end of the game. His friend was 0/0/0 as jungler 20 minutes into the game, and it was a sejuani; it's not like he was farming for feral flare. The troll and his friend? No punishment whatsoever even though their language was just as bad as mine. Plus, the one was legitimately trolling.

So yeah, doesn't make sense, but there it is. Riot's great system at work. Avoid punishments for 3 years. Go off on a troll and his cohort, get a 14-day suspension.

You can get punished for one game, but it is not the norm. Especially for peoples first punishment.

How many times had you been punished prior to that banned for 1 game incident?

I disagree completely with you. I was the average player. The average player doesn't read the forums every day to know what's going on. The average player thinks behavior-related things are going to be reasonable. The average player doesn't realize that calling a troll a dumbass a couple of times is 14-day ban-worthy. And you're right; the troll himself didn't say too much to me, so that's likely why he escaped punishment. He'd just spam taunt whenever I got anywhere near him. He'd steal red buff from me. He'd take my CS. He'd follow me around and laugh. His friend though--I'm not sure how his friend didn't also get a suspension, but he didn't. He was saying the same exact things to me that i was saying to him. I absolutely think that the average player is in danger, because the average player thinks he can slip up once or twice. And he really can't. If he slips up and doesn't get punished he's just lucky.

As for whether or not I ever got banned before? NOPE! I've been playing since S2, but I believe the only thing I got was a chat restriction during season 3 (I think) when Riot sent that wave of them out that hit a lot of people all at once. That's it. I never got a warning in my e-mail or a 3-day or 7-day ban. Nothing like that. I thought that what I was saying would be brushed aside because I wasn't toxic often enough. I was wrong. One game was all it took under the new automated system.

Hell half of them are complaining people aren't getting punished. And as you love to point out, its an automated system. It treats everyone the same. If I was on the more toxic end behavior-wise I would have expected to get more chat restrictions or something before getting an immediate 14-day suspension. I mean, there were players with hundreds of stacking chat restrictions at one point. I never had anything like that.

It was a player behavior specialist. This is what they told me:

"I'm sorry about any confusion that our previous message may have caused but, in this case, this suspension was the result of just your behavior in this one game. All suspensions and other types of punishments for poor behavior that we issue are based entirely on the intensity of negative behavior that is shown on an account. It's always been possible to receive a 2 week or even a permanent suspension for a "first offense" if your behavior is negative enough."

I had other games like it I'm sure. Not a lot. Nothing I can recall from memory for instance. But I'm sure I had them. I don't think it's possible that I had a lot or I would have been banned sooner or at least had a plethora of chat restrictions up to this point. Don't you think? And let's say that I NEVER had any games like this before--then that's even more of a reason not to give me a 14-day ban right out of the gate, right?

On Nov 14th in an effort to get my season rewards reinstated I asked the Behavior Specialist to look at my recent history and tell me that I was still using language like that. This is what they said:

"I did look over your behavior since the ban and I do see that it generally appears to be better but that also doesn't mean that we will ignore part of the punishment."

So I went from getting virtually no punishments to a 14-day ban for one game with a troll in it, and even though I took it as a wake-up call, and haven't said anything even close since, I still don't get ranked rewards. My account isn't even 'marked' anymore, according to player support, because they erased all behavior flags after I was suspended. So I basically have a fresh account, with no displays of toxicity in 3 months, but I can't get rewards. And I've been playing since season 2, and this was the only game I've ever gotten in trouble for. Think about that.

Sounds like that's more up your alley than mine based on your responses to my posts. If you can't see what actually transpired in that game then you're a lost cause.

You're also completely missing the issues. One of which is that you can get a 14-day ban for 1 game without getting any prior suspensions, and without being racist, homophobic, issuing death threats, etc.

Yes, that's the word. Two things about that.

How is that hate speech?
The sejuani called me the exact same thing and didn't get a ban.

Also, the Rioter I spoke with never mentioned any words in particular, just said it was excessive toxicity in that game.

It is probably the most emotionally charged word you can call a woman. That makes it discrimination based on gender, which makes it hate speech. I donno if I personally consider it hate speech but if someone called it that I wouldn't argue or question it.

As for sej, I donno. like I have been saying, it is not typical to get punished for 1 game. Not only are punishments not typically handed out for single incidents, it takes a certain amount of reports to even trigger the automated review. Sej most likely just hadn't been reported enough to get reviewed.

Basically it sounds like the amount and weight of reports you had received before that game led you to be on the edge of getting reviewed. The reports in that game pushed you over, triggering the review. As shown in the logs, the review found a lot including hate speech so it was escalated from the 25 game chat restriction it would have been without that word to a 14 day ban. Since the log was non stop garbage being flung starting at line 2, support didn't have to look very closely at all. They might not even have noticed the word since there was so much stuff and the system was already telling them the game was way over the line.

I try not to speculate on what really happened. That's why I asked the Rioter so many questions and kept e-mailing back and forth, back and forth. And if you think I type a lot on the forums, I wrote a book for the Player Support person. All I can tell you is that according to them it was this one game that triggered the robot and produced the ban. The robot is also the one who issued the ban, not a real person. The automated system is automated; it does everything by itself. Occasionally whatever it does it checked by real people, but largely it's left alone. Again, I was told this through e-mails.

I don't understand your(and others) focus the automation. That would matter if it was some mistake, but that's obviously not the case. From every angle I look at this I see poor communication from support not mistake by the system. Your case was upheld by a rioter so the only thing the automated system did was its job as intended. This system has been running for a long time, if what you think was happening was happening, it would be visible. Even if you want to consider the changes in August big(which as far as detection goes, I don't think they were), that is still 3 months. Million of people and games have been played.

Speculate is all I can really do. I have no doubt you wrote books to support. I also know that support doesn't have the luxury of spending a lot of time on individual cases. The computer probably told them the game was really bad, they looked at the log and by the 2nd line you can see where its going. I HIGHLY doubt they read that entire log. I'm pretty sure the only reason I even noticed it is because the forums censored it so it stood out.

I don't understand your(and others) focus the automation. That would matter if it was some mistake, but that's obviously not the case. From every angle I look at this I see poor communication from support not mistake by the system. Your case was upheld by a rioter so the only thing the automated system did was its job as intended. This system has been running for a long time, if what you think was happening was happening, it would be visible. Even if you want to consider the changes in August big(which as far as detection goes, I don't think they were), that is still 3 months. Million of people and games have been played.

Not to beat a dead horse here, but I really don't think that word i used is hate speech. If I was attacking a female because she was a female that would be hate speech, but I was calling someone a slang term for a female reproductive organ. I could have called him a penis and it would be the same thing. Hate speech is more specific; it's purposeful. Like, "women deserve to be raped because they're inferior to men". That's hate speech. Same with the word retard. If you call someone a retard you're just saying they're slow in the head, basically. Hate speech would be more like, "retarded people deserve to be burned alive." I'm not demeaning women by calling someone the 'c' word. If that were the case then anytime someone called someone a "pussy" would also be hate speech. And that's not the case.

My point in putting up my chat log and posting everything that I posted was not to suggest they made a mistake. I know they didn't. I'm trying to get the message out that people can get banned for 1 toxic game even if they've had no prior warnings/restrictions. Most people who post on these forums don't seem to know that. They think you can be toxic every so often. The reality is that you can't be. You're always running the risk of being severely punished like I was.

And my main problem with Riot is not even the 14-day ban, it's the loss of ranked rewards. I don't say those kinds of things in game anymore, and the only reason I did was because I honestly didn't think it was a big deal, particularly because of the troll situation. I certainly never thought I'd get a 14-day ban for it. I thought that was for more serious or repeat offenses.

Its not particularly important whether or not you(or I) consider it hate speech. It's pretty clear that it is considered hate speech by the system. And it perfectly explains why you are in the situation you are in. They consider things like "that was gay" to fall under homophobic regardless of how innocuous the statement was in context so I see no reason to think c--- would be any different. I guess I have no direct confirmation that retard is considered hate speech but I have seen a couple other cases similar to yours but with retard so im fairly certain it is. "Pussy" and "penis" simply do not carry the same emotional charge as c---.

The problem is, at best the message you are getting out is grossly over exaggerated/distorted. Most people are aware that punishments can be escalated with severity. While the whole "some times you allowed to be toxic" is sort of true, that is talking about mild things, which your logs are not.

And now you know it is a big deal. Maybe in your specific case the ban would have been enough but millions of people play this game. Riot doesn't have the luxury of spending the time to figure out the minimum punishment each individual needs. They have to do what is going to work for the most people. Its hard to find significant punishments that aren't perma bans and riot finally found one.

14 day bans are for serious or repeat offenses. Your offense was serious.

You, on the other hand, will get a 14-day suspension anytime you go off on these trolls or harassers. Riot's system working as intended. Deal with it.

(And actually you can get banned for just one game of verbal toxicity. But it never seems to happen to the people who really deserve it).

my ppoint exactly 2 accounts banned now and i have one more left but probably wont even play it cuz i never got that account to level 30, pretty much done with league at this point,

so sick and tired of having trolls and people who just feed on purpose or even just teammates who refuse to listen to any kind of logic or ping

they can go on to play another day,

but the one guy who may have only 2 games to play for the night just wants to climb gets matched up with teammates from hell while the other team seems to have perfect fcuking team coordination.

that one guy who gets 2 games who which are not fun at all, and ur bascially just sitting there in base because no one else is warding, and u basically are just playing lets kill minions until we FF or until they win. That guy who is fed up decided to say to this wonderful individual intentionally ruining their games that person gets banned

My friend has been the most toxic player he can be for the last 4 years. The reporting system does nothing for the community. AND PEOPLE KNOW THAT. No one is afraid of it as no one gets banned. That being said, everyone in league is toxic because they do not fear getting punished because they never do.
