It demoralizes the players in the game that clearly can see you are smurfing, some afk some quit trying and it just makes the whole player experience pretty shit for everyone except the smurf.

There's not much Riot can do, unfortunately.

For starters, League is a F2P game. Nothing can stop people from making an alt account and playing on the ranked ladder.

Secondly, it can be hard to consistently detect smurfs. Just as an example: There's a Jax in your game with 232 CS and 13 kills by 25 minutes, he's pretty much single handedly carrying his team.

  • How do you tell if he's a smurf?

  • Do you go off of how many 'good' games he's had? What if he's just on a lucky streak or found a champion that he likes?

  • If you do determine that someone is a smurf, do they get punished or moved up to the appropriate rank? That poses problems in itself as it could allow people to skip large gaps in ranked or innocent people could be punished.

  • Can the system be automated? If not, it probably won't work. Unfortunately it's just not realistic to implement a system based around manual reviews, Riot would never be able to keep up with them.

Not trying to be sarcastic or rude with these questions, just trying to help explain why Riot can't really do much about smurfs.

I agree with what you're saying. It sucks going against a smurf, that's wayyyy higher skill level than you. It cost me two promos just this month, before I finally made it through them the third time. Horrible way to play league to be sure. I've reported, AFTER they admitted in chat to smurfing, and nothing is ever done. Look the account up several days later and they have 223432423445435 games played since. It's disgusting.

Eliminating smurfs would finally allow fresh people to get somewhere. Not the same challenger/pro players that smurf just to get an easy win. Can't learn a damn thing on getting curbstomped in game. CaptainFlowers said it best, "get rid of elo boosters, smurfs and the like and let's get some fresh players in here".

Sadly i don't think it will happen as majority of players that aren't smurfs have already quit DUE to smurfs. Eliminate the smurfs and there's no one left in NA playing.

Smurfs = Increased player numbers. Think of it from a business perspective, literally the only reason Riot permit it.

There are two reasons why I smurf.

To practise, which I don't see problem with, I will skyrocket through silver elo with plat mmr from start and stop where I belong, playing that champ/role.

To get acc with fresh mmr, solution would be to let player decide if they want hard or soft mmr reset at the end of the season/maybe even during season.

the grind to get better and climb rank

Nothing is holding you from that, smurfs are just first hand experience what you need to do to get in their elo, when someone complains about smurfs they don't really care about improving, they just want the borders and skins or just rank, they don't want to improve.

Dia smurfs are so rare below plat(except ones that troll on purpose to get in lower elo, that should be punishable, but unless it's hard griefing, it will go unsolved)

I used to dislike smurfs. Lately the smurfs have been kind and non-toxic. In fact, some have been helpful (giving tips etc). But I only play blind and bots.
