It's better to not communicate in low elo actually IF you seriously know what you're doing. If you are meh and climbing or bad and doing your best (you likely fall under one of these) then yeah do it.
When I was smurfing I almost never spoke, it was rare. If I spoke, it opened up to people trying to say stuff like "dude you're totally not smurfing", raging (more likelyhood to at least, and if they start, they're more likely to continue), and more stupid stuff.
People will miscommunicate and such and it's better to just take matters into your own hands, and rarely speak. Just to directly lead and command. Get fed, prove your worth, then just make calls. "Baron, -now-." Don't go on about it, don't speak much more, just that. "Warded here. Come get blue. Ganking @ 30 secs." Very very simple things, but you don't say anything more.
Dialogue just makes things harder especially in low elo.
When I was smurfing I legitimately got 15+ kills as Diana routinely (Silver and sometimes low gold iirc) and at one point 1v5'd and got a quadra. Granted my elo (true elo) is well above that.
Tl;dr: You're holding yourself back.
