I have never been flamed/harassed as a support.

Hanging on these boards, you'd think that support is the most hated, belittled, flamed, made fun of, etc role in the game.

And yet, myself I have never really been disrespected for supporting. I have been disrespected for playing bad, or have had the usual player who flames all players and then proceeds to be the worst of them all, but for all it's worth, I've never been attacked about something and the cause was me being support.

Which basically leaves us a limited amount of options :

  1. People are exaggerating. I feel like often most people here are having some older seasons PTSD flashbacks of running around the map with mobi boots, gp10 items, 5 wards and would simply spend the whole game like that. Ever since the changes, no one has ever complained about vision for me unless I was genuinely doing a shit job at it.

  2. We've got a serious case of "victims". And by that I mean someone who regularly flames people and is then surprised to have people flame back.

  3. It's an elo thing. I don't play much ranked, but I have no problems keeping gold and regularly get matched with either golds or plats. I'd assume then that the whole support flaming thing is a bronze/silver thing (or flamers matched with flamers). But then again, everyone gets flamed at in that group anyway. If a top laner can't be flamed for not csing and/or overextending, supports are left with dumb mistakes and vision.

  4. I'm very lucky? Granted, I'll usually play 2 games a day at most, a fair amount more in the weekends (although usually with up to 2 or 4 friends). The possibility that for the last 2 years I have not been flamed for anything other than playing bad is rather slim but hey, it's possible as I don't play as much some of you.

I think overall I'm simply curious about other people. It seems a lot of folks on boards are often talking about how they get treated bad when supporting. If it's a regular thing to you, would you mind stating your rank, how vocal you usually are in games, are you flamed for actual mistakes or are they really taking you for their slave, do you even main support or are you just filling, stuff like that, as I never really experience any of those and would be curious if it's a luck thing or if it can be dealt with in a way.

I haven't noticed a whole lot of support flaming recently, outside of teammates seeming to expect all my CD's to be up 100% of the time, and for me to never miss a skill shot. And really, those haven't happened a whole lot. I think we're far enough removed from season 3 that people have either adjusted to the vision changes, or else they weren't even around the game back then.

Honestly, I'd guess that a lot of the people complaining are queuing as support secondary, even though they're not actually practiced at the role. These people are probably flamed less for a lack of vision and more for their lack of knowledge of the role. Generally, if I see a support that's basically just sitting in the lane brush doing nothing all lane, it's likely that they're not actually a support main, but they picked support secondary because it's the 'easy' role.

Been a support main pretty much since the ADC/Support bot lane became a widely-known and standard thing later on in Season 1. Got up to Gold in S3, but my gameplay suffered a lot due to external circumstances in 4 and 5. Now working on climbing back through silver, currently 17-3 with support so far this season. I really do feel like this is probably one of the best seasons for supports right now, though I'm also playing much better than I was the last 2 seasons.

fellow support main, you are too full of yourself.

didn't you know that our era is over and now, all the hate is all directed to the junglers?

" I don't play much ranked, but..."

It's like saying "I don't actually play the game... but I have a huge opinion about it."

I agree with you so much, it seems that a lot of supports have gotten a victim complex. that they can do no evil, god forbid you try to ask them to do something different.

Well congratz you are in the minority of Supports. Does not mean everyone else is lying or exaggerating though. Common issue with people in arguing or debating points is they take their personal experience to be universally true and anyone who disagrees is wrong. You aren't harassed, therefore you believe everyone else is lying, I mean 3 of your 4 points are that the person being flamed is not innocent...
