I see them all the time when I play late at night or early in the morning, but I wouldn't say its an increase. Theres always been a ton of them , and, not to be "racist", but generally they all play very poorly.

I don't feel they play poorly, just really, really aggressively. And their behavior is also pretty aggressive. Make one mistake and they start cussing you out in Chinese and spam pinging(not really different from ppl in NA, but the amount of toxic/Chinese is higher (small sample size is inaccurate though)).

Perhaps, but I cannot speak for the person of the original post, it could hinder effective in-game communication aside from using 'pings'. I'm not saying this is the case, merely that it is a possibility. Furthermore, this doesn't infer that it is a negative attitude towards Chinese people, or is racist, simply that it could be a linguistic gap between two different languages that inhibits effective verbal/written communication. This gap would most likely also exist if an English speaking player would enter, for example, the South East Asia region server.

It could be that the writer of this post has racist intentions, but given that we can't know or be sure, please let us not assume the worst. :)

but most of the time chat is only used to talk shit and flame others , 90% of the time it provides nothing useful. kinda like the boards.

as i stated in a reply on here already i am an advocate for removing chat function from the game.

in majority of the games i play i really rarely use the chat function. mainly cuz how people react and get pissy with each other.

but also where i live there are alot of different people who speak different languages and none of it bothers me.

but lets look at NA in general not the USA so canada speaks french, english, mostly... im sure there are some other languages from eastern europe there. and then we have mexico , parts of the Caribbean islands who speak french, spanish etc so if you look at north america as a whole not usa as a country is very vast and different. and then if you wanna say well NA is mainly USA then yea ok ... how many different races, nationalities and etc are here in america?

hell even english isnt the same based on where you are from... there is ENGLISH english, then american english, then american slang, then there is the different regions of the country that has different english dialects. there the people from the swamp south areas that speak a french Creole english, im in texas where its different here then in lousianna and different the west and east coast and so on...

i get alot of it you can get by with and understand cuz its all parts of english... buts its not the same ... and hell for that part we here in america should know and understand more then english.. considering most languages are based from the language of latin .

but lets make a post regarding a few people in a random game talking in Chinese to a Chinese friend in the game

I agree that too many people talk shit and flame others, I wouldn't give it 90% but too much nonetheless. This is of course not what the intended use of the chat function is, but used by people for such game experience detracting actions anyways.

I would argue that this is more a social behavioral issue. I think a first step is to create more comprehensive community guidelines regarding good and bad behavior. Riot does have the League of Legends Summoner Code of Conduct but this, in my opinion is fairly basic, still important though. It is also not a very prominent part of, or referenced frequently by Riot... yet this is more marketing problem.

While you may not use chat a lot, which is of course entirely your prerogative, and I'm sure there are man more who don't wish to use chat either, there are also many people who do use chat, and do like to engage in productive, complimentary, or funny small talk within the game.

It is indeed the case that there is a wide variety of ethnicities within North America, and I think this cultural diversity is something worth celebrating. I enjoy hearing different languages, so it doesn't bother me either, and I happen to speak 4 myself. I do feel a distance whenever I meet someone I cannot communicate with, in game, or out in the world. This is because I would like to be able to communicate with the person, perhaps even get to know them a tiny bit... for the duration of a game for example. To make it clear, speaking a different language is not an assignment of blame of any kind, merely a an obstacle between two or more people to communicate, regardless of which languages these people might speak.

Indeed there are many types and dialects of English too. However, these elaborations stemming from the idea that the creator of this post might have an anterior motive are a nice way to discuss a social issue, but do not help answer the yes or no question asked. As I mentioned in a previous comment, the title of the post was a poor choice, and the creator of this post could have anticipated that this would create a much broader discussion, as well as have people conjure up the notion that there is some malicious or racist intent behind the question.

My answer to this question is: No, I have not seen an increase of Chinese speaking LoL players on the NA server. I have also not paid attention to it, nor do I care if there are more Chinese speaking people on the NA server.

i dont take offense to it... i just dont see why it matters . why you even thought about it this much to make a post regarding it. that is my stance on the topic.

but then again where i live there are alot of people who speak different languages then i do. you learn and adapt and in the process you might pick up some of the language you dont know or understand and they might pick up on the language they dont speak or understand. i say just live and let live

Remember DynaQ and the premades? How people hated being not in the premade group?

im still the odd man in a 4 man premades fairly often

it happens... they normally use some kind of voice chat or have a certain team comp they want /play or a certain strategy they play... which none of it is wrong... but just like with everything you adjust and adapt and try to make the best of the situation

In the end, the game is meant for you to have fun, and the other people are supposed to be there to cater to you.

That's the ideal situation for a person playing a video game.

Obviously, that won't ever happen.

What happens is everyone ends up being entitled and thinking everyone should be built around them.

Premades are just 4 likeminded people ganging up so they can have their way with the 5th.

It really sucks that you have to adapt or cater to them.

It's the same with autofill. For the greater good, you have to take a hit.

It still really sucks. Autofill at least has some justification with shorter queue times.

At least some simple English knowledge is highly appreciated, since they're playing on a server richest in English communications. Otherwise, the Chinese players should have just played back at their Garena servers instead of being a hindrance in NA.

Communication yes.

There is a difference in playstyle, I think.

But playstyle should generally vary between players, and not between race or country.

Based on my experience, though(it's small), they tend to be aggressive, don't speak English, and play aggressively(China has had an aggro-based meta in LCS since a while back, I think. Demacian champs were probably popular for them as a result, along with bullies like Rumble).

When I was in an Asian country, they did play really aggro. Given, this was s6, and they were playing Shaco and J4, which was really strange(J4 top wasn't even close to being as popular as it is today; Shaco wasn't reworked, so...)

Different playstyle, different language, different behavior. We should be tolerant of difference and all that, but still.

Hello Everyone,

I, personally have not noticed an increase of Chinese speaking players on the NA server. What I do notice is the assumption that the question has negative intentions by those commenting to this post.

I do think, especially for North Americans as they are generally super-sensitive to this, the choice of title 'Not to be racist, but...' was rather poor. Hence I would recommend to the writer of the post to reconsider titles that people might be sensitive to. However, the title in and of itself does not infer racism by itself. The idea of racism given to this title is that in recent times this phrase 'not to be racist, but ...' has been linked by people to accuse the speaker of racism. As far as I know the phrase 'Not to be racist, but...' started to be used by people as they became fearful of being called racist as their remark contained a reference to another ethnicity, which necessarily has racist intentions.

In case of this post, the writer, based on the question, does ask a question related to perhaps an ethnic group, but merely asks for verification (or not) of something he/she apparently observed. I also do not know what further use answering or verifying this users observation would have, but then again, I did not ask the question. However, let us not defacto assume someone has the worst intentions, or bad intentions at all.
