Idea to improve behavior, post yours also

Give everyone a maximum of 20 messages of reasonable length they can type in chat.

From there, every honor you get adds one message to your allotted total.

If you flame and get caught, you drop to 20. If you flame at 20 you drop to 0 PERMANENTLY.

At a certain limit, you get a cosmetic boost of some kind. Extra BE or OE when you disenchant. Plenty of different ways to go.

Carrot and stick. Keeping it simple. Completely avoids the problem of excessive arguing in chat. Riot can remove 14 day bans for mild offenses, and retain the ban punishments for trolls and extraordinary flamers. Thoughts? Lemme hear your ideas too

Riot has tried to give out infinite chat restrictions, they found out that the people with anger issues end up using gameplay as a griefing tool, which results back into the 14 day or permaban and it feels wayyyy worse for those that are in the game of the toxic.

Your concept is interesting, but will certainly require a lot more tweaks in numbers to make it work.

I would be sad if EVERYONE was semi chat restricted though... It can seem like chat ONLY exists to tilt your team (and this is true in many, many solo queue games), but in the rare game where people are just reacting to plays without being angry or salty, it can be quite fun to type stuff while dead and have that banter.

It's true that with smart pings and now emotes it's easier than ever to communicate positively in-game without typing though, so I wonder if, for a certain easily frustrated breed of player, the nuclear option of just hiding chat completely wouldn't be a positive option for some.

Sadly they might miss good/useful info unless there was some sort of self imposed 'mark'that let their team know that they've just opted out of the chat experience entirely... probably not workable.

Where as I like the idea of getting rewards for being honourable, that is pretty much the whole point of our current honour system. And besides, league is a team game. Is 20 messages per game being guaranteed to be enough? I am fairly certain I have sent more than that in a game, just to coordinate, not to pointlessly argue. Getting more by being honoured is all well and good, but a fair few people don't get honoured despite being 'honourable' and a fair few people gets honours despite being unhonourable, just because they also carried.

This is essentially the same as a chat ban, which we already have. Unless you intend for people to be unable to talk for an entire season, which seems pretty harsh.

14 days bans are, afaik, not for mild offenses, but for people who have gotten chatbanned, proven to not make any effort to change, and then getting banned for their toxic behavior as a last warning to 'hey stop that or else you will get permabanned'.

Anyway, for my thoughts, I really like the idea of being rewarded for being good, but feel like we should look at the preexisting honour system and making that better, instead of removing people's ability to speak. Removing people's ability to speak when they're being toxic is good, but that's also already done.

Terrible idea -- I personally write the times of various camps and summoners spells even certain ults so we can keep track of what is up and when and coordinate accordingly. This is a fairly common strategy at higher level of play and one that would penalize those people way too much. You could increase the message count but then you would just be back to your original problem.

Don't improve your behavior, just stop typing to people.
