A discussion most of you will just look away from

After years of playing league, I'm just done. I've been banned for trash talking the enemy team, which I guess competitiveness in games and simply enjoying it for what it is isn't condoned in league. I remember when I could actually use the chat to talk and enjoy myself without having to worry about getting a ban. Why is it that I can't have friendly banter with someone on enemy team without my account being in jeopardy? Why is it in a video game, I cannot tell someone shut up and play without having to worry about " oh man is this guy going to get offended and report me?"

I believe in punishment in games like the afk low queue wait and chat restrictions, but permanently suspending an account for what was allowed 2 or 3 years ago is ridiculous. I don't get why it's such a serious deal that riot created a system to just hands out suspensions and bans so quickly. I know this post will either get tossed aside and laughed about or no one will even read it but it is such a damn shame. I'm sad I spent money on this game over the years, I'm sad I wasted hours and hours of days playing this when I could have done something more useful or got into another game.

I guess i'll just get into Heroes of the Storm or Dota 2 since Riot is hell bent on just banning anyone who will stand up for himself/herself and play to enjoy not to cater to a 5 year old mind set where curses and friendly banter is frowned upon.

I don't want to return to this game but if Riot fixes their instaban hammer system that is obviously flawed then I'll consider playing again. Until then, they've stolen my money with no refund and continued to exhibit poor customer service and catering to the community that is super sensitive and childish.

Good luck to you all.

It doesn't seem like this is really a discussion you want, but rather a statement you want to make. There's no implied question, and the statement "community that is super sensitive and childish" sort of implies that you're going to paint anyone who disagrees with you as overly sensitive, even if they want to engage in discussion.

Good luck to you all.

Thanks. Good luck to you as well. Heroes of the Storm did get some love recently, and is definitely a lot of fun. Be warned though -- they have a report system as well, and I've seen players use it.

The kind of behaviour Riot bans for today was never allowed. It just was more difficult to detect, especially at times when it still involved a lot of manual work. "Friendly banter" is just friendly if it's mutually considered as such. If the other party doesn't like it and you keep going? It's not really friendly anymore.

You also seem to be unable to make a consistent point. You start out claiming you were banned for trash talk, then move on to asking

Why is it in a video game, I cannot tell someone shut up and play

which is hardly trash talk or "friendly banter". Then even further down move on to saying that

Riot is hell bent on just banning anyone who will stand up for himself/herself

which is yet another point entirely, and one that is more complex and depends on how exactly you "stand up for yourself".

And finally you turn to the good old fashioned claim that Riot bans for cursing, which has never been true.

Honestly, all of this inconsistency in your post really doesn't sound like you were banned for friendly banter. Like, at all. And if you were, it really doesn't help discussion if you derail your own thread from within the OP.

instaban hammer

There are rare occasions this is actually thrown out by Riot, notably hate speech and cheating. They have a tiered system, but if you used either of the aforementioned, you'll end up with either a 2-week or permanent ban. If you're seeking to have a closer look at your punishment, you can share your chat logs and/or submit a support ticket.

you know what?

Riot actually doesn't want you around if you were toxic enough to get the permaban hammer.

Have fun else where.

There is a difference between trash talk and verbal toxic harassment. If you've been banned because of your talking you were probably toxic.

Lol you're full of it, I say sooooo much shit and haven't gotten any ban yet. It honestly is beyond me how I am not banned. If you get banned you must be saying some pretty intense shit

Sometimes being toxic is fun... until you get banned.
