Can we have an option to mute a player's pings?

We've all had that game where we muted a player for verbal abuse, but who would continue to be disruptive by spamming pings..

That's why I think we should have the option to mute a player's pings. Sure, there's a short timeout for spamming pings, but in certain circumstances it can be rather disruptive and annoying, especially when the player abuses them constantly.

I just turn my sound off when this happens. Makes the game a little less enjoyable but I'll turn it back on next game.

These fellas are rare anyways.

I support this initiative. I'll add this:

  1. Minimize pings like chat restrictions.
  2. Ignore pings from muted players - there was a reason they were muted.

HotS has done this for a while and the world hasn't ended; I think it's safe to implement this.

So....get rid of communication your team needs to win (it is a team game) because we can't control the trolls and mute them. I agree with post, need a way to stop this.

Honestly this Zac is my hero, I didn't know you could ping 25 times in under a minute.

The only times I see people rapidly ping is when their team lacks any map awareness or the ability to take decent map control... or someone's angry because 14 year old boy logic.

People annoyed by pings? Rofl. Look at pro games, do you see how much they ping even though they are on voice communication? I say you all need to pull your head out of your ass, stop acting like someone giving you information in the game is detrimental to your play, and get better at the game.

SC Hydralisk5/13/2016, 9:31:45 PM2 votes

No, directly effects my game and experience.

I ping a lot, but at the level I play, it's because people don't listen.

Have you seen the team cohesion in pre-elo bronze and silver?

No? didn't think so. There's a reason people ping a lot, and that's cuz you're not listening

So turn your ping volume down or get into a game that's less noise and more relaxed cuz that sentiment is fking annyoing lol

You can't mute everything, sometimes you have to be thick skinned.

Was Zac your jungler? that's what it looks like to me. Maybe your team should show him a bit more leniency!

But yes, I do think this should be considered by riot. Also keep in mind, if this does become available, you will not always be put against the same player every game, so muting his pings permanently might change your outlook as a summoner. =) Hope I helped you!

i find this happens mostly when people don't listen and not when people just want to be toxic/annoying

Yes please.

Here's what I do. Tell them your ping volume is on zero, thus you don't care. They stop, and you can enjoy the rest of your game in peace.

Athina5/12/2016, 1:31:56 AM1 votes

Currently you can mute all pings in the options. It obviously isn't perfect, since you won't hear the pings of your other teammates and can still see theirs, but it's the best you can do right now. I do agree though that I think there could be a better solution.

Eetheart1/14/2017, 7:52:16 PM1 votes

Please! OR if you refuse to do this, at least change the frickin' Missing icon to something else, because people use it for what it's absolutely NOT intended.

Nebulaeus5/12/2016, 1:37:07 AM1 votes

Muting only gets you so far. Those pings are hella annoying.

Thy Unforgiv3n5/12/2016, 2:25:30 AM1 votes

I swear to god ping is one of the most annoying things out there. Yet riot expects you to keep chill while there is an annoying ping in your dam ear every 2 seconds

Sarutobi5/12/2016, 6:06:35 AM1 votes

The thing is it is a form of communication. Just like Chat it is somewhat a requirement since teamwork wins games. If you mute someones pings, and also mute said person then what is stopping you from reporting the person for not communicating? It really also depends on the person at hand. I know when i ping i try to do it once or twice, and to some that still isnt enough, and i get cursed at for not "pinging or MIA" despite me actually doing it, but since its only once or twice most people dont actually realize it. Then you get people who dont listen and still complain about it. I get people going all in with no wards, then get a 5 man gank, only to complain to us that we didnt help despite using our pings.

Dont get me wrong, pinging can be annoying especially when not used properly. but as far as i know spamming is against the rules, so by all means if people are abusing it report them!

scazzman5/12/2016, 6:36:03 AM1 votes

they should have ping restrictions similar to chat restrictions

DemainaNyx5/12/2016, 7:39:59 AM1 votes

Would love it. Even if it just restricted it to one ping per, that would be great. I ping Mia twice if both my bot laners are missing. For everything else, I ping once. Those people who ping danger when the jungler is taking his blue because the mid laner wants it really need to be stopped.

We get it. I can't auto the dragon any faster. Pinging it more doesn't increase my attack speed.

Atronthor5/12/2016, 8:15:20 AM1 votes

Well of course they could implement meaningful elements to the game. Real improvements so to speak. Unfortunately Greg Street and Satan have different goals. For example to destroy the gamemechanics and to troll the real gamers.

Ada Wong5/12/2016, 12:43:24 PM1 votes

I know there needs to be an option to mute pings I had a jungler earlier flat out Grief/troll/throw my lane off the game was won but the player had a very negative impact on the game by running into lane multiple times costing loss of XP/Farm, and then proceeds to ping the enemy who is under the turret and not go in after pinging causing me to die and just flat out causing the game to tilt to the point where I file a report on the player with a full details as of why I am filing a report I doubt they will get punished over one game of doing this, but its toxic and stupid...

Muting players isn't good enough because I also have to mute my sound and by muting my sound it limits my ability to hear other players pings, or the ability to hear the enemy placing wards and such which can save a life.

Dantone5/12/2016, 4:07:23 PM1 votes

I'd say they just need to implement a limit of 3 pictures pings per 10 seconds (can change the numbers to whatever fits). Even if a player isn't constantly spam pinging, even one instance is pretty obnoxious. You shouldn't have to ping the same thing more than twice (e.g, I notice mid is missing, I ping Mia on mid and ping danger to the two sidelanes).
