My favorite arguement for dealing with toxic people.

Riot: we designed a mute button so you dont have to deal with toxic people.

Also Riot: if you refuse to communicate with your team its a bannable offense.

And the community: communication in a team game is important to winning the game. Even with toxic players.

  1. Mute is not an excuse to abuse the chat feature.

  2. You will not be punished for not talking so long as you are attempting to communicate with your team through means such as the smart ping system when appropriate. This does not mean that you must use them all game or every 5 seconds - but you will not be punished for not using them when it is not necessary to use them. Basically, it's virtually impossible to get banned for refusing to communicate nowadays.

  3. Yes, it is. Hence why Riot bans the toxic players, instead of removing chat.

I would bring up one of cases for a chat restriction and show you just how tame the chat logs were... Games where I said relatively little, compared to how much trolling there was. If you say anything, and a premade group mass reports you, you're done. System will flag you. Then customer support will read your logs and say "you participated"...

Communications is not just by typing, but by pinging as well. You don't need to type to communicate. As for your flawed logic on getting banned for not typing as a communication is far from accurate. You don't even really need to ping all that much. It's what you say. Always have been on what you say. I know plenty of players that I play with NEVER uses chat. Just the pings. They never even got a warning. They finds it best to mute all the players and rely on their pings. That been working for them. So no, you won't get banned for not typing.

Riot tantrum has already stated that no one ever got banned for not communicating. He specifically said that that report "feature" was just a remnant of the old system and really didn't have any effect on the persons account lol.
