There are multiple things you may be referring to:

  1. Refusing to surrender vote a game that is still proceeding normally, even when you think it’s a loss - this is not punishable. Each player can vote to surrender or not surrender as their own conscience desires. They are not obligated to side with the majority of the team - hence why it is a vote with a “supermajority” needed to pass.

  2. Continuing a game through refusal to push an objective at a specific time - unless it can be proven that their intent is to hold a game hostage, refusing to push is not in and of itself bannable.

  3. Continuing a game through coordination between 2+ players on each team to ensure the game is not winnable by their 3 uninvolved teammates - this is punishable if reported and will be looked at individually.

  4. Some other form of hostage taking that you don’t specify.

I don't get what you say, but most of the time in ranked i NEVER surrender, why ? Because we can always come back and win, each victory counts !

We all know that dude spam surrender votes because they are 0/6/0 at 15minutes, even if our team has a great late game, they just can't accept that sometimes they're gonna have to get carried. I've won so many of those games where people wanted to surrender because "it's lost" that now i never surrender at least in ranked, if there is even 1% chances to win you should do your best and try to win :)

If you are talking about the video of that game during 6hours, yeah dude it happened once and everyone is ok to say they should be banned, there are already countless threads about that..

In my opinion giving up in a ranked game should be a bannable offence. If even one player on the team wants to keep playing then the team should play it out no matter what.

Funny you would mention Eve, a game where your ship can be be held hostage.

That game is a biatch.

being trapped in a slaughter in LoL is by far most toxic thing i have experienced in any video game.

the enemy team is ahead 25-10 they have some assassin thats 12-1 and im playing an adc. team votes no 3-2.

i try to stay close to turret and with support. assassin jumps on me and 1 shots before i can react. walks away spamming laugh. vote is a no 3-2.

now im staying deep under turret collecting what cs scraps i can get. but there is no vision anywhere in our own jungle because anyone who enters jg dies. other team is not pushing any lane just farming kills. suddenly 3 enemies step out behind my turret and delete me and my support in less than 2 seconds. team votes no 2-2 with the other guy afk.

finally after getting bored of the slaughter the enemy team pushes and ends at 40 mins. after dancing at our spawn for about 2 mins. final score 45-12.

team status? one punished with leaverbuster and two others tilted so hard it takes an hour to recover. as for the two who voted no repeatedly i can not begin to imagine their state of mind. because the kind of person who votes no in that situation makes no sense to me.

what possible motive could they have? to punish their teammates for being bad? some weird kind of video game honor? they would be tortured like that for 20 extra minutes because in some twisted way it feels like the right thing to do?

how exactly can someone hold you hostage in a game without it being illegal? e.g. they pointing a gun at your head threatening you to stay in the game or you die, because if they're not threatening your life or forcing you in real life then you are not being held hostage as you are freely capable of leaving the game nay time you want

Some people don't understand how other champions work. My entire team can think we're going to lose, but I'm Master Yi. As soon as I get enough items, I can kill everyone. All it takes is one teamfight, and then all of a sudden I'm "fed" and can solo carry.

So your opinion is wrong. Because your definition of "hostage" is wrong. Some of those players probably aren't "holding" you in the game. They are playing hyperscaling champions and know there is a chance at winning.

EDIT: you know what feels worse than inters? My team surrendering when I just got my items and know we can win. eg: when I'm the only fed person on the team, and everyone else is feeding.

I don't care if people swear and threaten people all game, that's fine. But teammates that refuse to surrender although the game cannot be won should be thrown off an actual cliff. I can't tell you how many games have gone on for 40 minutes when they should have surrendered immediately at 15. It's like they want people to be absolutely miserable for the longest amount of time possible.

They should make the LP gain scale, so if your match ends with an "Early surrender vote" you lose more, than if you lose/surrender at the 30 minute mark, then we have some actual way of controlling the elo spiral, since you damn near lose more elo than you gain from a win as is, this would let that happen less often

<edit> I want to say they did something similar a few seasons back

And how do you define "holding players hostage"?
