Probably shouldn't tell marginalized groups how they should feel about this. I'm sorry that people who liked varus' old story feel that their character was erased, but as someone who is gay but could care less about gay couples in a video game and think this whole ordeal is a bit unnecessary, varus' old lore was no masterpiece by any stretch.
I guess I don't love that the first(first? eh, who cares) gay relationship in League is a tragedy like literally every gay based story line for the first couple decades when openly TLGB figures were being depicted in film and in novels. But I get it in this context a little more because most loves in this game, in all of the forms that they take, are a tragic story (From Quinn and her brother to Lucian and his wife to varus' old lore, rip).
I just reject the parts of the game they push through that I don't like. They're made up characters anyway. We already do it (Taric and Ezreal being an example of a made up community interaction that everyone goes along with but that doesn't really exist).

For that same reason comic book characters have risen from the dead multiple times. I can't get on to them for not liking the new Varus who took away from them the story they were waiting ears to see finished just get reset and ignored.

Varus going from corrupted human to Darkin is pretty big change if you ask me but again no one seemed to complain about old Varus being written off months ago when it was revealed.

I do think it takes away from what people like about his character however, and Riot should have done some polls through the community (or at least the highest percentage of people who play Varus, as they are the most likely to care about his persona) before making such massive changes, but what is done is done. I prefer the old to the new, but my preference doesn't change what is.

Most of my work is unfinished and on paper, but my experience as far as time spent doing it is nearly a decade. What is more is that you don't need to be a good writer to understand what story is or isn't good. If a consumer doesn't like a product pushed at them, they have every right to be upset.

Because a very vocal minority in the LGBT are praising Riot for their decision to make an specifically stated heterosexual character homosexual, giving them an angle over the nay Sayers, branding us as homophobes wrongly. Most people like it because there is a cool music video, they don't genuinely care about his character and lore like we do. That being said, the players that took an interest in Varus's lore pre revamp are themselves a minority group, but the vast majority of that minority group are one in their collective dislike for the change. We know nothing will change, that is why we are angry. We lost our character to a crowd pandering Riot, so let us be angry. We have that right at least.

Him being gay IS something (but not the only something) I don't like, because it is too forced, and is entirely against who he was as a husband and father. Can you honestly say that I am wrong? But BECAUSE he is gay, we aren't allowed to dislike the lore. The new lore is... alright... I guess, but is nothing to the original lore which you obviously don't care about.

Autrah Fang1 votesi feel like a lot of his non-combat animations need changed now. the holding locket thing everyone talks about, his bow writhing and Varus calming it, the cocky nature of his taunt/joke... i can imagine a version of his taunt where Kai warns them to stay away, and Varus then taunts them to come closer instead. i can imagine his joke being changed into one of the guys taking control, saying something and then Varus controls their hand to slap them in the face or something... there's a lot of in-game things that need to be changed that just changing the VO won't solve imo
