Personally, after coming back from a long break (about 3 years), I tried to communicate with the community again on my new account. That went as well as expected.
I remember the exact reason for why I took the long break from this game: League's community has, by far, the most toxic gaming community ever. I understand it's because the vast majority of players are around the ages of 10-16, the game is extremely competitive, and the aspect of anonymity makes it so kids can pretty much be as nasty as they want, because there is no repercussions ever.
So, yeah, I heavily advocate following the advice of the OP: mute the entire community. The community is the main and biggest problem of this game since the toxic players and bots outweigh the decent part of the community, and League is still enjoyable and playable when someone doesn't have to talk or look at their text chat. Pings exist, and I would use that as my main source of communication rather than typing out whatever my thoughts are at the moment.
I felt like that i want to say all negative words in chat but I need to save so I don't get new account and start over.
