Problem with reporting Champ Select Trolls...

tl;dr I'm not psychic and neither is riot.

Are these people joking or not?

The fact of the matter is that one of the most popular trolls is to play champs you've never played before, ranked or otherwise,

Now prior to this he had said, hello and tried to be friendly, zero response, so he looked them up, and surprise surprise, not ONE of these people chose a champ they had ever played.

So he said. mistakenly, please choose champs which you have a history playing because this is ranked.

All of a sudden room lit up with chats of outrage over someone daring to ask that you actually take ranked seriously.

But is it reportable?

Without a game as evidence, you can't really determine their intent. they could just as easily be joking and/or have taken my friends comment as an aggressive toxic attitude. I'm sure there are lots of smurfs out there but, all four of them?

fat chance.

this is exactly the kind of trolling which can turn a 20-30 min game into an hour long affair.... "i tried"

sorry I don't have a solution to offer. however, I just don't see riot taking these reports seriously, unless it also contains evidence from an actual game.

Its not considered trolling and its not banable. All modes have same rules. Picking champs u dont have experience with is not against any rules. As long as u unlocked champion (IP or RP doesnt matter) its yours to use whenever u want.

exactly. this is trolling in fact, and it's just one of many types of cheating being used.

if a person was taking ranked seriously, and cared about how his/her actions will affect others, then they wouldn't do this.

This is one of those, I'm not going to argue with you, BECAUSE you don't really believe this yourself. You're here providing an insincere opinion in an attempt to normalize a toxic behavior.

people with common decency and even the most basic moral code understand this is garbage. You are free to rationalize this type of toxic behavior as much as you want, it still won't make it right.

I disagree with such a thing being trolling. Some people simply want the competition of a ranked environment where people are less likely to be intentionally trying to ruin the game; something which is prevalent in normals. If somebody usually plays nothing but ranked, who decides when somebody has practiced enough to take a champ into ranked?

It also doesn't make it an insincere opinion just because he disagreed with you. That's not how discussions work. This is straight up not trolling to a number of people. A quick poll of my friends as I wrote this up suggests they're about a 50/50 split on whether or not it would bother them.

You also have to keep in mind some people play on alternate accounts. Their mains might have hundreds of games played on a champ you're mad about them locking.

Having said that, I'd be totally down for Riot putting in a mastery requirement to play something in ranked as long as it was reasonable. Even something like mastery level 2. That's what, 2-3 games with a champ if you're scoring anything above B? The reason I argue against this point is some people are psychotic about it and would demand mastery level 5 for every champion a person wants to play in ranked. Some people literally don't have that kind of time. By the time you hit mastery level 5 on a champ you've never played that could be as much as 2 patches later and you might not find them useful anymore and have to start the process all over. Time demands like that are a really slippery slope.

You've made several valid points, and it's why I don't think A. champ select reporting will ever be a thing, and B. why it's just 1 element which has to be taken into consideration, but probably is not.

(this is very similar to what occurs to adc's, especially in bronze games. whereby support does everything possible to sabotage adc, then can lead to players, who aren't even trolls to rage at the adc come mid game. Nobody has any map awareness and quickly forgets beginning of the game and champ select. yet, riot continues to view this as 'just a bad game')

I'm sorry, but it's just plain common decency that before you start a ranked game, you have played AT LEAST 1 game with the champ in normals. Perhaps that is even your main in your other account.

So then the solution might be to just say that, of course you could be lying.

most of the time troll accounts respond with troll responses. instead of saying, I've played this champ before on another account you get:

"you stalker!!!! you looked up my games?!!"

"I'm plat u %%% this is smurf!"

or even completely random chat (I guess the theory is that if you act like you are discussing legit game topic, "dum dum will be fooled into accepting match"

When combine stuff together like this, it's SOOOOO EASY TO IDENTIFY TROLLS, yet doesn't seem to happen.

furthermore, this is done routinely and maliciously in low elo.,, and it's very annoying, often if it doesn't throw the match, it turns it into an hour long affair, full of false outrage, ping spam, etc etc.

why is that a problem, because it turns what should enjoyable yet competitive game, into a tedious chore.

I am not providing opinion but facts. Its not against any rules to pick champ u dont have experience with. Its a FACT not opinion. Also "trolling" is just a slang. In lol its common word for certain type of punishable offenses. There is no "trolling" in report options. If "picked champion he cant play" is not in report options, then its not trolling.
