If someone is insulting you...

just mute and ignore them!

If you decide to defend yourself, you have a lot of chances to become agressive too. Then, the report they do on you will be justified, because you insulted them. There is no reason to defend yourself against complete strangers. Don't try to find excuses (unless they specificaly target yourself, like "sry, I'm doing poorly"), especially if it's something like "I lost lane because you never ganked".

Being an asshole against another asshole doesn't make you the good guy : You're still an asshole.

As someone who frequently defends myself when I get insulted, I am on my 2nd chat restriction because of this. I wish I had the self control to mute these people.

This reminds me of the law in some states where if someone breaks into your home and gets injured in doing so, they can legally sue you and actually win.

Anyway. Yeah great advice, sadly though its not as easy to do. You might be on your way to hit that mute button and they get that last statement out that pushes you over.

If only everyone could be so calm item 3070

i have always disagreed with riot's stance on this. while retaliation may not be the best response.it is an natural one. if someone told you to get cancer and they raped your mother and that you should kill yourself in real life. how many of you would refrain from calling that person an asshole ath the very least

"Don't wrestle a pig. You'll both get dirty and the pig likes it."

Heard that somewhere. I forget where.

There are sometimes though where some troll will start insulting you to try to paint a picture that you are the one trolling so they can make it seem 'valid' when they report you later. Sometimes other people will even join in after seeing you make only one mistake, they start believing the troll who keeps talking.

Sometimes you just have to reply with exactly what happened... like I had a Fizz who kept going in and I was Alistar, I would tank for him as much as possible when he was diving way too far, but still every time he died he would say 'WTF ALI TANK FOR ME" and mass ping assistance while he's dying and I would reply "I was with you the whole time, you went too far" if you don't defend yourself calmly in this situation, sometimes your team will start believing the troll and get them all to report you. He had no response except to call me noob trash, and eventually the whole team noticed he was just a troll.

if you mute a teammate aren't you refusing to communicate? which is a reportable offense??? The only thing you can really do is tell them they are in violation of the summoners code.

Usually I try to stay positive, say sorry, etc. Even if not justified it just makes them look more like jerks if they keep flaming you and you're responding with "sorry" or something similarly polite.

Also, I've found in my years of playing various multiplayer games that excessive verbosity (aka using big words) confuses small minded flamers.
