Why can't you just utilize the mute button and get on with your life?

Do you hold enough grudges as to justify your reason to report somebody and get them banned? If you dont like the way they speak, why can't you simply mute them and get on with your life?

Why should bans be used on anything other than hackers and cheaters?

Benefits of simply muting and letting it be :

  • You can still listen to their pings.
  • If you run into them again, just mute them again.
  • They could actually reform if you don't give them a reason to troll (realize nobody cares)
  • You won't have them creating new accounts and coming back even more toxic, repeating a vicious cycle

Detriments of muting and letting it be:

  • If you hold grudges, you feel like you accomplished something, defeated some sort of evil or saved others from this horror, when in reality it is only another person creating text, letters and words, just like everybody else does on the internet. You are in fact creating a more vicious outlier by attempting to punish them.

Why you should simply just mute said person: When you report somebody and they get banned, you don't realize how many hours they could have wasted creating and playing an account, a history book of some sorts that will simply get burned because they called you a %%%got.

Why report feature shouldn't exist: Let me start off by pointing this out. The game is rated T for teen. Additionally, it is stated **"Language: League of Legends does not include adult language in any scripted dialogue. However, as a multiplayer game with in-game chat, adult language can and will occasionally be used by fellow players. Riot has included a language filter, but simple spelling changes can easily circumvent this filter. The game does feature a mute option for individual players, so offensive teammates or opponents are easily muted during play. **"

It is a known fact people will curse and be rude, and they themselves said that you can easily mute these people and just play the game. Where did they mention a report feature? Why be vindictive towards people for being rude? How will that accomplish anything or make it better by any stretch? How will it affect anything at all towards the way somebody acts? "Oh, man, I really dont like this dude. Just because I don't like him, he can't play my favorite game anymore" "Wow this dude is so rude, instead of using my easily accessible Mute Button I am going to report him and get him banned, just for cursing at me!"

I understand that this post will receive a torrent of downvotes. But just so you know, once you get into the real world, you're in for a hell of an awakening, brothers.

People fuck, kill, nuke, fight, shoot, do drugs, rape and kidnap each other and break just about every single law you can think of. And you're worried about somebody cursing at you and ruining your perfect gameplay experience?

Cursing by itself has never gotten anybody banned. Verbally abusing people does. And it just so happens that in many cases, the verbal abuse and cursing goes hand-in-hand. Though back when the tribunal was still around, I do recall a rather entertaining case where somebody was very well-spoken in their verbal abuse. Didn't use a single swear word at all. Rather creative, really. Unfortunately, he still deserved a punishment.

I like you how use real-life scenarios of people breaking the law as justification that people should just grow a pair and mute people and move on. You try to claim that is the 'real world', which basically proves you've not reached the real world yet. Go ahead and go to your job and curse out and verbally abuse your coworkers and let us know how that goes. Oh wait, doing that got you fired, and maybe even a lawsuit filed against you? Shocker. And your defense of "they should have just walked away if they didn't like what I was saying" won't save you.

That's the same thing you're proposing here. It's been posted many times, but apparently you need to hear it again: at the point where somebody feels the need to mute another player on their team, the damage has already been done. Mute, report, move on.

And you know what? You're even allowed to disagree with this. If you personally feel that muting and moving on without reporting after the game is fine, you don't have to report them. But that doesn't change that the behavior in question is punishable.

Mute so you can stop it for yourself. Report so the next guy doesn't have to deal with it at all.

It's not always(or even usually in my experience) a matter of being unable to handle w/e people are saying. Its not wanting to deal with it. People play games to enjoy themselves and some people don't enjoy people flinging garbage all game long.. Riot at least tries to provide an environment that supports that. If that is not something you want in a game then you have simply chosen the wrong game to play.

Everyone agrees to the policy when they join league and re agree every patch. People have no one but themselves to blame for "losing" their account when the break that agreement.

I generally do mute people at the first-second offense and move on.

But that doesn't change the fact that I can flip the question on you. "Why can't you just respect other people and not force them to mute you in the first place?"

Here's my opinion:

If you want to harass someone, it might not ruin my day, but it doesn't mean I want to spend an hour of my time seeing in chat. If it's directed at a teammate, I might say "Knock it off." Once. If it's directed at me, I probably won't even say that to you about it. I might even mute you.

But I've noticed you. And I will quietly report you after the game.

And by the time I start my next game, I'll have forgotten everything about you except, maybe, which champion was played.

From your response, just like they have a choice in muting and or reporting you, the harasser also has a choice in being an ass. You writing "kill yourself", "fuck your mom" or whatever is not an automatic reaction to someone playing bad. You went out of way to say that to the person. People are not born with sticks up their assess.
