(Rant) Riot, your system makes it very hard to maintain principles of good sportsmanship

..considering that you're indirectly punished for doing so in just about every way possible.

In fact, I'd go a step further, and say that the people who troll and don't care get to have more fun and satisfaction than the people who refuse to behave that way.

  • Stuck in an objectively lost game? No, you can't leave, in fact, you'll be punished for doing so. I don't think the game designers truly understand how frustrating this is. God forbid that game contains a troll, on both sides you'll be stuck there even longer.

  • Stuck with someone who is trolling? No, you can't leave, you can't even call them out or ask "wtf?". You'll get a chat restrict while they skate. Even in the blatant "buy 6 tears and run it up mid" cases. Even when they admit to trolling in chat. Even when you bring this up in a support ticket.

(To any Rioters reading: Check my ticket history. First or second one in 7 years. Then check the op.gg history of the guy I mentioned. Count how many inventories full of tears and 0/xx/0 games there are.)

  • Even when justice is served, it's not for long. A permabanned troll can just load up on level 30 accounts ready to enter ranked play for less than the price of a skin. This system is only effective against dedicated players, not dedicated trolls.

  • Even when you do resolve to not lower yourself to that level and just mute&report, 99 times out of 10, that report goes nowhere. You get no feedback. No closure = no sense of justice. I just had my game ruined, the last half hour for nothing, and the other guy appears to skate.

You know how many IFS popups I've gotten in my time here? One. One single report out of I don't know how many was validated as successful.

You know how many times I've been told that I'm trash, to kill myself, and so forth on the rift? A lot more than once.

  • The behavioral system's extreme tox filter will catch things like "kys" but not "kill your self".

  • These things are still allowed in player names for some reason (allowing for trivial "say my name" bait bans)

I've been to honor 5. I've never received so much as a chat restrict in 7 years. I'm not some paragon of good play here - the things I've yelled over discord would probably get me perma'd on the spot had they gone over chat. But I don't troll games, I don't leave games early, I don't yell at people in chat.

But dammit, you guys are making that really hard to maintain. Every time I do the right thing, it's like getting a slap in the face for my effort. A couple honor key fragments every week (which, let's be honest, has a lot more to do with how hard I carried than how I behaved) or so does not lessen this feeling that reports are a waste of time.

Please, please please please, start enforcing your own rules. Or at least put on the appearance that you care about enforcing the rules.

You just stated a bunch of facts why RIOT and their system are a joke when it comes to discipline. The fact that you can make as many accounts as you want is enough of a reason to show how truly stupid this system is but IMO RIOT don't care.

You are right in almost every possible way. I'll just put in a very simple way. Riot has their priorities in the wrong direction. Toxic in chat ? Permaban. Trolling 1 out of every 2/3 games ? Riot.exe is not responding. You can mute toxic players but you can't stop trollers. Reports ? lmfao gl with that.

Very well said. Agree with this 100%.

for me the main issue is the punishments.

trolls should get insta 14 days ban, if trolled again permaban. stop focusing on toxic players .. people can mute the chat, but we cant mute trolls ..

isntead of permabanning a toxic player .. perma ban him from the chat .. the punishment should be justified and related with what was done wrong.

like how is it easier for you to ban a toxic player over a troll ?? i'd start with the scripters, troll and feeders.

Main thing i disagree with is your complaints at being unable to leave the game. If thats your complaint, dont queue up. Thats the only solution, and should be the only solution.

Did you know that the IFS pop-ups only occur when your report was for the final game they are punished for? It is not unlikely to report someone, they get punished, and you to never get the pop-up. As for a source for this, it was posted by a Rioter at some point and I doubt I would be able to find it again. Feel free to take this with a grain of salt.

My Advice: Just make a new account and troll the shit out of every game. You wont get banned and you will get far more enjoyment then actually trying to play the game properly.

Thats what I've done, Keep my MMR close to Gold 5 and if it's some guys placement matches to get to gold and all he needs is 1 win then I become deadweight and waste that players time. I then usually get raged at, I record it, I edit, I upload it to youtube, I get easy money. Far more satisfying and much easier. What's better is that i report them for verbal abuse and then read their QQ threads later on the boards when they have been banned.
