Open microphones in parties is coming in 8.6 and has the potential to add a whole lot of personality to our friend-lists. It got me thinking, how active on the mic are we actually?
In terms of current mic tech like discord: Do you like to hold frequent banter during games, or just tend to focus on the game and keep talk to a minimum?
I think that for premades it's a really good idea, but I worry that it needs to be implemented extremely well to ensure that it doesn't affect gameplay (through data usage, ping, etc). I further worry that it'll evolve into full-game voice chat that becomes virtually mandatory to play.. but I really don't think Riot will allow that.
I don't really talk when I have Skype or discord open, but I have a low volume tv on so voice chat probably isn't for me.
I'm not too talkative myself, and normally just say stuff about the game, but I'm almost always on discord when I'm playing and almost always with a group of people who are just talking and joking away regardless of what is happening. I prefer it that way honestly.
I'm not really against voice chat. Often times though, I can't use it. (Playing at work :p)
Back in my MMO days, we always had a Ventrillo server. So, we had a place for game chatter and a place for off topic chatter. Never had any problems. I don't expect any problems with League even if they went full open mics.
I think voice chat is good and bad. I've met some cool people on League and even some that I have gone and met in real life after only knowing them in game. So I think it is great for that. Another good thing is teamwork. I am not the fastest typer so it hard for me to say something like where the jungler is without going afk for a few seconds so being able to just say it would be nice. The downfall is how terrible 75% of players are. Reading the toxicity in chat is bad I most defiantly don't want to hear it. That's just my opinion. Good luck on the rift mate.
