I don't understand how "Low Priority Queue" is a "Punishment."

So I recently quit and left a game that was horribly one sided and got placed into this for 5 games.

Okay fine I am sure I deserve it, whatever.

but.

I don't really understand how this is a punishment? I just have to wait 5 minutes before it finds me a match? That's not really teaching me anything, that's just mildly annoying me. I can easily just watch TV or something for 5 minutes while I wait, I am really in no rush.

I honestly think there are better things Riot can be doing to punish leavers, this come from a leaver himself.

Riot doesn't know how to punish and what to punish. They have their heads so far up their asses I doubt if they know if it's daytime.

Well if you keep doing it , it becomes 10 minutes, if you keep doing it then it becomes 15 minutes, and I've never let it get past that so I don't know what happens then. The reason why it starts at 5 minutes, though, is so that if it was due to things you couldn't control then you aren't getting a ridiculous punishment. Also it's letting you know that something will be done about it and most people probably thought there wouldn't be until they saw that 5 minute leaver buster.

Think about what you've done during these 5-20 minutes of nothing

I am not an instigator or a griefer in any game, except in rare occassions. One example being a LoL game last year where I intentionally fed 30 times into mid turret after being matched with known and prior reported trolls game after game. I do, however, respond in kind sometimes. Anyways, DotA's reporting system was worse in 2014 than LoL. I was frequently placed into the low priority queue because of trolls that report. You know the type. Frankly, I enjoyed the low priority queue in DotA. It required three wins to exit. During that time I griefed my team. I didn't care how long I was restricted to low priority games. It was a reason to become the troll. Sure, there were probably players wrongly put into the queue, as I, but why care right? It is "waste my time" queue, not "low priority" queue. I forced my team to win despite my griefing. It was more fun than regular games. It felt like I was doing my part to give back to those griefers that were rightfully in the queue.

aren't you more likely to get matched with people who go afk frequently though? I remember my friend playing on one of his smurfs and we kept getting afks and we didnt know why, but after a couple of games it gave him a message saying something like "congratulations you haven't left any games recently and have been removed from the list" or something
