Are you serious? I had not one, but TWO players flame the hell out of me for picking Teemo into Xin. It was dead ass obvious Xin was top and Teemo counters the living shit out of him. On top of that, they had a vayne AD so I would have been invaluable late game. I swear, gold is just polished bronze sometimes....
Jo0o19 votesTo be fair, Teemo is just super unpopular to have on one's team these days in general. Lane counters aside, having a Teemo on your team, to many, means that you'll be teamfighting 4v5 a lot.
But that's just my cursory explanation. I don't believe in flaming people for their champ picks, especially when in your case it was absolutely calculated and probably beneficial.

I debated an individual the other day in a thread I made about potentially blocking folks from banning their teammates' pick intentions, and he was quite adamant that he reserved the right to ban off-meta picks. That just seems contrary to the spirit of the game to me.
I mean, none of us want to see Attack Speed Janna jg, but that's an exception. Simply Teemo Top is fine, if not necessarily meta-shattering at this moment.

can be absolutely terrifying late game, and when played right, but it's not exactly easy to play it right.
Things like teemo top would usually be a good sign to me. If they aren't picking a meta champion, it means either they want to have fun (which is fine by me) or they have experience with said champion (even better.)
Troll for Trump6 votesIf you pick Teemo (and usually this applies to most offmeta picks) 4 people have to play around you. If you pick something normal, they don't really need to play around you. If you pick Teemo, you don't really have to play around them.
Teemo is a pretty selfish pick, because it forces you to play around him by never grouping, because of how poor his teamfight is. Most likely, the four other champs on your team are meant for teamfighting, so, by picking Teemo, you're being dead weight, even if it is a lane counter.
Funkin Dunkin2 votesThen people aren't playing Teemo properly imo. I don't play Teemo often in ranked but when I do I have large success with him mainly due to because how I stick with the team. I'm usually shrooming high risk areas and holding on to at least 1 for a team fight because when the insanity ensues, and it will, 1 well placed Teemo shroom will chunk 3~5 of their players in the middle of a fight. If we're going for an inhibitor, I have my escape routes littered with shrooms. If we're doing dragon or baron, I litter the area where the enemy will either come in, or try to run into. The people who play these 1 dimensional on hit Teemo's are the reason why he has such a bad rap.
OP Garen Support2 votesTeemo is useful when played with a brain the problem is that the teammates have the brain of a chicken and even force team fights when they are behind kills meanwhile you secured the 4th enemy turret. Forcing enemy carries to recall, because they stepped on a mushroom makes it possible to take Baron/Dragon due to number advantage. When splitpushing Teemo usually can 1 vs 1 anyone so the enemy needs at least 2 people to catch him. 
is a "selfish pick" like any other damage champ on top/jungle/supp . Other top Laners that are useless in most cases :
(except when they are good and fed so dann hard they roll over the enemy instead of walking).

Have Little Devil with mouse that has 2 additional button for spamming mastery and laugh.

ChaosThief4 votesHonestly, I don't think people realize that Teemo pushing top means someone, or some people, will have to stop him from taking objectives. In other words, it becomes a 4v3 or even 4v2 while Teemo is pushing top because a single person might not be enough for the pesky little yordle.
People vastly underestimate non-teamfight oriented strategies and often flame or worse if you don't follow this mentality. Some champions are just not designed for teamfighting, not as much as others, but they still can make a massive impact in the game.

If Teemo loses lane, he becomes absolutely useless until 35min+ when his shrooms start doing late game damage. Until then, there's not much you can do since Teemo provides no utility. I'd so much rather have an 0/5/0 Galio over an 0/5/0 Teemo.

Xin Zhao is maybe autoattack reliant, but unlike teemo, he can build tanky and still remain a threat and useful. Teemo on other hand have 2 option: AP, or On-Hit. If teemo don't build up anything to do damage he is literally useless.. Xin can still do good damage regardless. AP you end pretty squishy and magic resist counter you pretty much, and on-hit, you need to remain in AA range and sometime it mean death if they have strong crowd control and engage on you. And like someone stated, having Teemo is a burden nowaday because most of the time, it end being a 4vs5 for the Teemo team because they barely ever move from their lane...

I mean i don't play in gold but i think it's the fact that it's where more people who play FOTM champs are. Most people will then know teemo isn't that good metawise AND aren't willing to play with something offmeta.
