Discussion: Should IP bans be used on everyday folks?

Please call me out if they already are, I’ll delete this post and move on.

Point 1

Everyone’s had a troll, on the enemy or your own team. Some of them do it for one game out of spite, big deal. Just punish’em. There are people who make hundreds of accounts just to ruin people’s lives.

Point 2

Ban baiters are a thing. It is the person which gets baited that is at fault, but if someone is maliciously abusing the game to get people banned, I don’t think they exactly should be playing.

point 3

Too much bad behaviour. Anyone has a chance to reform, even my man Tyler did. If someone is not trolling, but rather has a high ban streak (10+) i think at that point, they needn’t be part of the community.

Am I too harsh? Too lenient/strict? Let me know.

Cheers.

  1. Those people will still make accounts because IP bans are useless, but you're saying that me, an innocent person who doesn't realize that my dorm's IP has been banned (and thus can't get around it since I can't identify what's going wrong) am going to get punished for the actions of someone else? Great idea.

  2. People really don't do this. Period. Sure, a very very small contingent of players may. But this is not as common a problem as you make it seem. And it already has a solution called self-control and responsibility for one's self.

  3. That's why a permanent ban exists. Unfortunately, there is not a reliable method to ban a person that can scale to the massive scale of League.

You have no idea how easy it is to change IP those days.

99% of the home users have dynamic, or shared IP. Getting static IP is a paid service in most cases.
