If they didnt care they wouldnt develop LeaverBuster system.

Afking is minor offense, very normal part of online gaming, often necessary and there is no game that punishes it severely, so League doesnt either.

How can AFKing be considered a minor offense? It pretty much takes away any chance of your team winning. Then you look at chat, which is punished much more harshly. The fact that you can be banned by an automated system using zero context for calling your botlane "bad", but no automated system will ban you for leaving as many games as you want, I see that as a problem.

To answer the OP, I don't see how anyone could say the answer isn't a resounding "No". You can AFK/leave as many games as you want and Leaverbuster will never actually ban you. It only hands out low priority ques.

First of all, it does. 4v5 is winnable.

Second. Its minor offense because real life is always more important than game.Winning isnt everything. If game would severely punish afking, it would imply that playing game is more important and you bet your ass biggest game in the world would get kind of bad media attention for that. Players ignore emergency because Riot is strictly against any form of afking. No. Simply no. Afking will always be considered minor offense and repeated afking can only result in Low priority queue.

There wouldn't be any "media attention" if Riot properly punished people for leaving games. Thats quite ridiculous. The Leaverbuster used to actually ban people if they left too many games before they changed it in Season 4.

And by using a "minor offense" excuse, how could chat not also be considered a "minor offense", especially since it can be muted?

Because chat, as in insults, harassment, humiliating can harm certain people that are more emotional and can have severe consequences. Muting is temporary solution but it doesnt heal damage already done and it doesnt prevent further damage to other people.

In an average game, which do you think would be more negatively impactful- Someone calling their botlane bad, or that person leaving the game and forcing their team to play a 4v5?

Maybe. But there is no proof that it has psychological consequences. Maybe if someone does research and publishes it, video games start doing something about it. For now, thats not the case. As far as i know there is no documented case where someone caused self harm or harm to others because their teammate went afk in video game.

If someone is so emotionally unstable that they can't handle a bit of trash talk from strangers online, then maybe they shouldn't be playing online games.

Edit: Maybe only until people reach level 30 should it be a major offense since it can discourage new players from continuing.

pretty sure if they move their character like once every 5min, the leaver bustersystem wouldn't notice anything.

It won't auto dc the player, but the system does notice things like running around the nexus, dancing in the fountain, and most of the common attempts to dodge the leaver system.

Yep. I don't mind people AFKing if something comes up that they need to attend to. Everyone needs to AFK once in a while, and I'd rather not have someone get banned because they had to leave a game to stop a toaster fire.

Anyone who is afk more than 3 times per year should have their account permabanned. It feels like a quarter of the games I play have a leaver, and its just been getting worse these past few years.

I think if your going to report them, you do need to look at the whole picture and the out come of the game, if you won with no real complications, no, but if that person being afk made the game extend a whole 20+ min, yea. Veigar

Riot does punish those who afk very often but for those who rarely afk for the first time don't recieve punishment its ignored 1st time then 2nd time they make you say I Agree

If you don't afk for quite a while Riot will send a notification saying you have not been leaving games often keep it up then restarts
