Why are there upvotes/downvotes on Report a Bug posts? The point of them is for Riot to fix it, not the community to approve/disapprove of them.

Because some people will post things that aren't actually bugs and just them not understanding how the game works. Or the same thing gets posted like 50 times when there is clearly a search option for users to see if what they want to post has already been posted by someone else.

To clarify, does it not make sense for multiple users to report bugs so that Riot knows that it is not just one person experiencing the issue? Downvoting could be due to someone loving a champ for having a certain bug, and that bug would possibly go free because enough people downvoted it, am I right?

The best way for an issue to get noticed is not multiple threads of one thing. It's best to upvote and comment on one so it becomes part of the popular section.

The devs don't go through the popular section to determine which bugs to work on, i assure you of that.

Then that is still useful feedback because it means there is lack of clarity around the issue.

Or the same thing gets posted like 50 times when there is clearly a search option for users to see if what they want to post has already been posted by someone else.

That is infinitely better than the alternative, and it is comparatively easy to fix problems with lots of data on exactly what causes the bug. Different posts might have different conditions which trigger a bug, and that can illuminate what the actual problem is. As a dev you want more posts about a bug than fewer, as they can be consolidated trivially.
