Sightstone Upgrades?

While I don't exactly approve of the specifics of the execution (Why does Juggernaut look like a Fighter enchantment?), I love the system implemented for Jungling items based on boots, where you start with the basic item item 1039, buy an upgrade for functionality item 3711item 3713item 3715item 3706, and then enchant it for further stats to turn it into a respectable mid to late game item item 3722item 3725item 3716item 3707. Then the thought came to me: Why not apply this to sightstone?

This is mostly for fun, but hey, just think of the possibilities:

Basic: Sightstone: 400 gold Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds 4 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player may only have 3 Stealth Wards on the map at one time.

Upgrades: Ruby Sightstone: 800 gold (400 gold) Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds up to 6 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Refreshes a charge automatically every 90 seconds. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player may only have 3 Stealth Wards on the map at one time.

Saphire Sightstone: 800 gold (400 gold) Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds 5 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player with this item may have up to 4 Stealth Wards on the map at one time.

Emerald Sightstone: 800 gold (400 gold) Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds 5 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Passive: Unique: Emerald Vision - Stealth wards placed by the owner of this item are able to see through terrain. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player may only have 3 Stealth Wards on the map at one time.

Diamond Sightsone: 800 gold (400 gold) Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds 5 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Passive: Unique: Diamond Vision - Stealth wards placed by the owner of this item have an increased vision radius. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player may only have 3 Stealth Wards on the map at one time.

Topaz Sightstone: 800 gold (400 gold) Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds 5 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player may only have 3 Stealth Wards on the map at one time. Active: Unique: Revealing Light - Consumes a charge to place a Vision Ward over a Stealth Ward. A player may only have 1 Vision Ward on the map at one time.

Amethyst Sightstone: 800 gold (400 gold) Passive: Unique: Ward Refresh - Holds 5 charges and refills upon visiting the shop. Passive: Unique: Expanding Vision - A player with this item may have up to 2 Vision Wards on the map at one time. Active: Unique: Ghost Ward - Consumes a charge to place a Stealth Ward that reveals the surrounding area for 3 minutes. A player may only have 3 Stealth Wards on the map at one time.

Enchantments: (I'm bad at giving stats a good and fair cost, so these are just descriptions)

Crest of Gold - Increased GP5

Crest of Iron - Increased % Health and Mana Regen

Crest of Mercury - Increased Movement Speed

So, obvious Sightstone is obvious basic component, no surprise there.

Crystal upgrades grant different ward upgrades.

Metal enchantments are the raw stats to help make the Sightstone not just over dominate an item slot. For now, I only did utility for supports, but I can see more battle stats based enchantments working for tanky/AP supports, or even top laners/Junglers who may want to invest into a sightstone.

Anyone else got any ideas for possible ward upgrades?

Can't remember who originally suggested it, but it was called "Diamond Sighstone", IIRC.

Sightstone + Catalyst the Protector. Grants the +health/+mana on level-up that Rod of Ages currently provides.

Not too keen on your suggestions, however. Reason being I don't think the Sightstone should have different ward functionality (and I suspect Riot is never going to consider that idea). Keep the tier 1 Sightstone as is. Alternative Sightstones would be built (mostly) out of other tier 1 items.

Examples: Sightstone + Sapphire Crystal -- for the support who wants more mana Sightstone + Amplifier Tome -- for the support who wants more AP Sightstone + Longsword -- ...er, well, a Sightstone with AD might appeal to non-caster support picks like Leona, but would likely be picked up by Top Laners or Junglers who can make use of it (i.e. Lee Sin ward-jumping)

The aforementioned "Diamond Sightstone" is my personal favorite. Gives players a strategic incentive to rush a (upgraded) Sightstone, but without being mandatory under all circumstances.

I like the idea. Except for the topaz one. But I think sight stone would definitely be more worth keeping around if it had some versatility. As it is, there's barely a reason to upgrade to ruby sight stone.

item 1039 is the essential jungler item. Similarly, item 2049 is the essential support item. Junglers have a way to make their item suit their play style, while supports do not have that option. In some ways, it feels like the slot is wasted. A simple enchantment system like there is for the jungler items would be enough; although it would be awesome if the second tier augmented summoner spells like summoner 7 {{summoner:2}} summoner 13 and then that further was improved with an enchantment system.
