A question about self identity and medical advancements

Accept yourself for who you are. Don't change. You are unique...

So why do people get surgery because they believe that they weren't meant to be a boy/girl?

Now it's highly likely that surgery will advance to the point where a boy can completely turn into a girl and vice versa. But wouldn't this raise a new level of identity crisis? So what would it mean to accept yourself when you can just change anything you don't like?

Or people abusing it because they're tired of being a particular gender.

TL:DR - Here are the questions

  1. What does it mean to accept yourself when you could just change anything you don't like about yourself?
  2. Why do people get surgery because they believe that they weren't meant to be a boy/girl?

And no it's not an assignment. It's just been bugging me for the past few weeks.
