I Had no clue where this goes. Think I can get some help?

I am an amateur writer. I've been an avid reader, writer, and gamer for as long as i can remember. It is one dream of mine to work for Riot Games, but sadly I couldn't make it as a programmer for a plethora of reasons, and my friends are telling me to follow my passion with writing. I would still love to work with video games, as they hold a special place in my life and heart, and the lore of League of Legends fascinates me (which isn't to say that i don't think the whole mess needs a cohesive overhaul because honestly I think a lot of it is broken as hell as far as cohesiveness goes). So before I go off into a tangent, (if any Rioters decided to read this at all), allow me to get to my question/plea for advice.

I know that I have no chance for working at Riot, at least for the next several years. I am a 19 year old with nothing published and no real qualifications to work anywhere as a writer. My grades in school were meh for the most part and my college experience was so far a flop. What I want to know is where I should begin in the search of experience and all the prerequisites that I would need to work for your company. I want to do this right, and knowing me, if I do it my way it won't ever get done properly. Again, I am in love with how League's lore is set up (for the most part) and would love to help in its development some day, and if i could get some advice in getting on the right track and growing my skills as a writer, i'd be greatly appreciative. Where I had grown up, there was no assistance for students not seeking work offshore or in the oil field, so for the most part I am feeling around, blind and completely in the dark.
