Why you lose points in promo matches?

I would like to udnerstand why you lose so manypoints in promo matches?

I mean shouldn't the promo matches be separated from your regular ladder? I just did a promo for plat, lost it and i am back at 40 points, now 0 fter some more losses. What i mean is, isn't it a bit too much? If i have proven that i got there, why you have to set me so far back before trying again?

And also, if this is the logic then why you don't actually earn points if you win promo matches isntead from starting at 0???

It has to do with your MMR. I went on a loss streak, got demoted back to Bronze, and I still had 75 lp at B1. Needless to say 4 games later I was back in silver. If the system thought you deserved the next tier, you'd have higher LP.

You actually both gain and lose LP during promos the same way you normally do with the exception that you can't go over 100.

Changing this wouldn't have any effect on your rank in the long run though because it would just change the difference between your MMR and league rank. So if you win your first 3 games of promos and start the next division with 60 LP that would just mean your gains would be smaller and losses would be larger. Which would continue until you lost 60 LP from that, leaving you right back where you would have been.

LP is superficial.
