Where was that Riot context about the random AP scaling in some abilities

Such as Ashe's, Gnar's & Shen's ult. Or even on basic abilities like Fiora's W & Yasuo's E.

It's not like we're going to build items like Deathcap or Rylais to upped the abilities' scaling, so what was the point of adding those unnecessary AP scalings?

Trinity Force, which doesn't give AP anymore.

It was because they didn't want the abilities to scale with what they thought the champion should buy. So the ap scaling gave a bonus little assist for when they bought items that have mixed stats like hextech gunblade, triforce or ect...

I always thought it was for old Triforce

Balance. Essentially to not make it so that a champion's main stat or stats doesn´t influence their balance as a whole.

AP Ashe is very rare, nigh non-existent really, as is AP Shen and on-hit AP Gnar (Disco Heat made a video about AP Gnar a while ago. Pretty good, as is the rest of his videos).

Fiora's W still has 100% AP scalling in it, but AP Fiora is unrealiable, at best. Plus, she builds mostly like Riven.

Yasuo's E, well, it´d hurt a lot more if it had a 60% AD scalling. Bonus or total.

It´s to ensure some build diversity while maintaining those diverse builds balanced. Often by the champion's own kit.

It was for Guinsoo's. Find the patch notes and you'll find the context but it was 100% for guinsoos. I remember they did nocturne and shyvana just for that reason but people like ashe just always had it because they were older champs.

They said it was to make items/masteries/etc. with unused stats not feel as bad. Old TriForce gave AP, and was a prime example. But there's also Guinsoo's Rageblade, Baron buff, and things like the mastery that gives AD/AP per level. On champs that don't normally build AP, the power budget allotted to these is really small.

When Nocturne's passive got an AP ratio (in the last year or two, sorry, I don't remember when), they said it was so that if he got some AP from, say, Baron buff, the AP wouldn't feel wasted.
