LeaverBuster in its Current State

Can we talk about LeaverBuster? I feel like he's probably doing some good work out there somewhere, but as I sit here waiting ten minutes to queue into my first game of the day, I can't help but wonder if there might be some improvements.

I got this second disciplinary action from leaving a bot game. Why is leaving a bot game, where one of the enemy bot afk's to match you, AS punishable an offense as say, leaving a ranked game? That doesn't make any sense. My first disciplinary action was accrued because of a complete power failure when a huge rain storm blew through my town. Literally nothing I could do about it, and when I tried to appeal to Riot support, all I was met with was "We don't actually have access to view, change, etc. LeaverBuster punishments."

There should be some sort of differentiation between queues' punishments. There should be some way to be able to compensate for power or equipment failures. This just doesn't feel fair.

Completely agree that bot games shouldn't be qualified in leaver status, was my thought initially - however; new players do bot games to learn the game. People AFK'ing in a bot game forces that potentially new player to have to adjust to a 4v5 mechanic which should be special cause not common cause.

Bot games, while not important to the majority of Level 30's as we're just there to practice champ mechanics is critical to the development of new players. So they would either have to write an entire algorithm for level 30's with regard to AFK in bot games or just leave the system as it currently is which requires players to stay connected to games.

As an addition to what TJ said: New players begin to learn what is and is not appropriate to a game in bots. If they learn that it's ok to leave during a bot match, they'll get confused and angry when they suddenly find they're getting punished for it when they move to Normals.

I have mixed feelings about leaverbuster applying to bot games. I don't personally find it to be an issue. Like you mentioned it has a bot leave if a player does so it still stays even. However, leaverbuster to me is more of a big picture thing. Its not so much about the game you left, but rather measuring your chances to leave in the future. Maybe in some of the cases people treat bot queues differently and wouldn't normally leave outside of that, but things like computer/internet issues are going to carry over into other modes. IMO, it is dangerous to allow leaving in any form.

Few other things. It does treat ranked leaves more harshly than others. The difference isn't in how long your LPQ or how many games, but it takes less leaves to get punished. There is also built in leniency for things like power issues. This is why you do not get punished for every leave, but rather having an unacceptable rate of leaving games. You mention being punished twice but you have certainly left more than 2 games. You should have had a warning and a 5 min LPQ, and a 10 min LPQ so that's at least 3. And realistically there was probably at least 1 more leave between the warning and 5 min LPQ. You are simply leaving too often. When you play enough games without leaving you will get a notification that your status with leaverbuster has improved.

I believe I ready somewhere that leaving a ranked game is weighed twice as heavily as leaving a non-ranked game, so they are "equally" as punishable as far as I can tell. You must have left quite a few games to be punished twice. Why are you leaving so many bot/normal games?
