I know its your first time so you would have problems. But Poppy actually does very well vs squishys like cass. Poppy shielld passive + 
active will chunk cass for a massive portion of hp. Couple that in with an E + Q wall stun combo and thunderlords proc you can practically 100-0 someone like cass.
Its all about playing smart and biding your time.
I mean... she's super easy to gank because she has no escape, save her flash. You also have an Evelynn jungle, making it twice as easy to gank, especially with a Poppy whom can ram her into a wall.
I do understand all those "ranged" complaints regarding top lane, but seriously... a Cassiopeia? Any decent Jungler would just abuse the living shit out of her and render her useless while feeding you and himself.
