Is Xerath suddenly more popular?

I've been one-tricking Xerath for most of the Season now, and haven't come across a single Xerath on the enemy team, in roughly 180 ranked games.

That is, until this week, where I came across not one, not two, but three Xerath's on the opposite team. I checked them all, and none of them have a history of playing him regularly, they just decided to play him this week.

I checked lolking, but I didn't see an uptick in popularity for Silver. Is this just a fluke, or has some steamer or LCS player played Xerath lately?
