the new "support" meta

Sorry but im not enjoying this new thing everyone is doing where they play glass cannon ap champs as "support." I've now seen LeBlanc, Katarina, Brand, Velkoz, Annie, Galio, Cass, Orianna, Ryze, Viktor, Veigar, and Zyra all played in the bottom lane along side an adc. With all the changes Riot made over the preseason its completely making "support" an obsolete role. Why play Leona or Janna when you can pick Velkoz and earn as much gold as the ap mid laner without cs'ing?? Riot is allowing it to happen. I wont even play in the bot lane anymore cuz if i actually pick a legit support champion, and the enemy decides to pick a glass cannon mage, then its gg for bot lane. You cant do anything against that. It basically becomes a 1v2 lane. The game i just played in, i had a Ryze support while the enemy had Galio....wth is that!?! If you enjoy playing the actual support role then i honestly feel bad for you, cuz Riot seems to be ok with it slowly fading away and bot lane turning into a team deatchmatch lane. Part of the reason why i think its happening...along with FQC being op as hell...is support items arent worth building anymore. Theyve been nerfed to hell season after season. Why buy a Locket that gives a measly 15MR to everyone when you can buy a rabadons and one shot the enemy adc?! Also with all the global gold + bounty gold being shared, supports make more money so theyre all opting to go for dmg items instead of buying items to support the team. Idk....this game anymore man.....i could make a list of 1,000 reasons why this game is going down hill. GG Thx Rito

As a Sona Support Main, (who plays both AP & Utility Sona) I don't like this either.

It's going to force Riot either give AP Mages less CC / Dmg / Or scalings. Or they might just keep nerfing them along with their items' costs.

Riot tries to pigeon whole a champion back into their regular lane, people get upset.

Riot could do what I've prayed for them to do. Make champions more carefully. Think it through, if you know you're giving an AP Mid 2 forms of AOE CC dont you think that others are going to take him/her bot lane?

I had a KogMaw which was honestly very annoying. He started with item 3098 and was still chunking us out in bot lane with Ezreal lol Not really related because he only has a slow for CC, but still an odd support that worked out for them...

Braum Trundle AlistarBlitzcrank Thresh TahmKench Soraka

Usually do well against mage supports simply for the catch potential, damage reduction, and sustain.

Anyone that can deny them kills or kill them outright will fair decently well.

If they cannot get the gold needed for their items, they will fall off super hard and be of little to no use to their team mid-late game. Unlike the champions listed above that have inherent value in the form of their abilities as apposed to items (although items on them make them better also).

the counter to this is having a competent Alistar , Thresh , or Blitzcrank . why? because mage supports are very squishy so one blitzcrank grab pretty much guarantees a flash or kill on their support, assuming you aren't behind.

Its not about squishiness but about having a kill/poke/sustain lane. Brand is for a kill lane. Vel'koz for poke and raka for sustain.
