[PETITION] Official 4K Resolution Support Thread

ModWuks·11/26/2015, 8:09:16 PM·181 votes·15,318 views

Update: The issue has for the most part been resolved in Patch 6.2! Thanks Riot!

HUD font size now properly scales with HUD settings, rather than system DPI settings. Sorry, 4k users!

Hey everyone,

First of all, on behalf of us in the Wrenchmen Program (Wuks, Kao Atlantis, and Elduris), I wanted to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. We appreciate your patience and support over the past year, and we're also thankful for those who've popped in every now and then to help out another Summoner in need. Hopefully, everyone's planning on spending this break with loved ones (studying for midterms/finals can wait)!

For as long as I can remember, and increasingly over the past year, we've seen a large amount of Summoners having issues with League of Legends when they run on 4K resolution. And often, the solution we give that sometimes works is to change your desktop resolution to 1920x1080 and hope that it works. Well, with more and more computers and monitors supporting 4K resolution, I figure it's time to create an official petition thread that we can gather community support for regarding finally implementing 4K support. And because we send a lot of people to post in Miscellaneous whenever they're seeking this feature and their threads often get buried, we'll instead be sending them to this thread to post their support. The more people that Riot sees backing this feature, the better chance it'll be moved up on their development priorities. Hopefully, sometime in the near future, we'll no longer have to deal with huge fonts that make it difficult to read the scoreboard and other stats.

Thanks for your time, and if you support this petition, please leave an upvote and a reply below.

Cheers! Wuks

My monitor is too good for the games I play!

First world problems. [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Well practically every graphics card above $140 supports 4k resolution so why not? Lol

Besides LoL is still one of the lowest spec games out there so it would be interesting to see a video of a $160 graphics card playing LoL at 4k.

Signed. I don't use one myself, but all players and all resos should be supported.

4K gives unfair advantage as it allows users to see far more on their screen than players who can only afford lower resolutions

I don't have the monitor for a 4k resolution, but I most certainly believe that games should offer them [slayer-pantheon-rainbows]

Well, with more and more computers and monitors supporting 4K resolution

Eh, this is pretty friggin inaccurate honestly, yeah newer cards are supporting 4k but we don't even have single GPU's that can do 4k with any meaningful impact, the people running 4k resolutions and doing it well are the colossal minority that isn't growing much at all.

I'm not saying they should up the support, but you make this out like 4k is going to be the new standard any time soon, which is ridiculous. 1080P only recently started becoming the normal for laptops, phones, and tablets etc.

the human eye cannot detect the subtle differences in frame rate above 60 FPS, the same can be said about the difference in resolution from 1080 to 4k yeah the color quality and blah blah blah, those are stats and advertisements over exaggerate the difference for sales purposes anyway. so whats the point in Riot spending XXXXXX dollars on upgrading the servers and their drive and system to support 4k? seems like i would be more concerned with how my LCS goes than how 10% of the overly rich people play. JS. and LMAO Rolska!

+1 Add a loading screen for us UltraWideScreen(21:9) players and everyone will be happy! :D RIght now its ugly to have 2 black bars on each side of the screen when the game is loading...

Edit: By UltraWideScreen I mean 2560x1080p

+1 Playing with a 4K monitor is a real disadvantage in the game at the moment (Gigantic font, can't see seconds on screen, map icons tiny or just disappearing, ...)

Pretty soon we'll need 8k support :P

I play LoL on a 4k 15.6" laptop. The text font is so big that most of the numbers overlap, and the cursor is so small that I miss most of my skillshots. Please fix this problem soon because it makes me really pissed.

Now let's all support the pancake thread.

whats the point if you have 20 inch monitor? Are the monitors that you use 100 inch?

StrikeZone11/27/2015, 3:18:56 AM2 votes

I'll up vote this.

We also need support for 5760x1080 triple monitor. A more immersive exerprience. My suggestions for this would keep the HUD on the middle monitor. Make sure the mouse can move the screen from the middle Monitor only and not get lost on the side monitors.

This is ridiculous, Riot. I shouldn't have to change desktop settings every time I want to start/end a round of LoL. Please fix this ASAP.

Solaxo11/26/2015, 10:08:18 PM2 votes

Why the heck are you playing this game on such oversized screen?

Just Cat11/27/2015, 3:38:11 PM2 votes

I do not own 4k monitor but i will support you![slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

Okay, so my new 4K monitor came in the mail today. Sweet.

Two things desperately need fixing:

  1. The size of the in-game cursor.
  2. Minion health bar size.

I can't find my cursor when there is a lot happening on screen. Even with very little going on, the thing gets lost pretty easily. Honestly, I wish the dumb thing was easier to find in 1080 resolution sometimes. The problem with minion health bars is two-fold. First, they are just really small and that is annoying. But the second part of it is that it completely messes up your last-hitting, because it is different than what you are used to. Now, those sound kind of the same but are distinct in my head anyway.

Champion health bars could be bigger, but not a huge deal to me compared to the first two things.

As for the size of the menu text, I don't find this gamebreaking because although it is small, it is just as legible due to the high resolution.

Finally, the Launcher is downright miniscule. Again, I can see what I need to, but it is laughably small.

I'm sure I'll have more to say as I get a little more game time in.
