On MMR Boosting Proof

I have seen a few MMR ban threads today. I do not want to pass judgement on any person making these threads. I have not seen any evidence.

And there is the word I want to talk about. Evidence. A common comment to these posts reads something like "In a court, you need to show proof before you punish someone".

To people making these comments, perhaps it might be helpful not to think of these as normal criminal cases. Let us imagine the accused booster as a terrorist. The government has information from a secret source that suggests that the accused is a terrorist. Perhaps this source is placed inside a terrorist camp. This evidence is enough to put the terrorist away for a long time. However, sharing this evidence compromises your source. You will lose this valuable information for good. What do you do? You can't let the terrorist walk free. That would be dangerous. It could seriously harm your country. You can't share the evidence. You have to arrest and charge the terrorist without showing evidence. Years later, when the source becomes obsolete, you share the evidence and prove that you were right. That is all you ca do.

Riot is in a similar, albeit less serious, position as our hypothetical government. They cannot share the evidence or their detection systems could be bypassed. They cannot really leave boosters in the game as this violates competitive integrity.

So what do you do if you think you have been wrongfully banned. First, think.

  • Have I let a friend play on my account? This could be MMR boosting, and is against the TOS anyway.
  • Am I lying about the crime? This means you were boosting. Complaining won't help you.

If the answer to both of these is "no", send a ticket to H&S

  • DO NOT ask for evidence. They cannot give it to you
  • DO ask Riot to make a second check. It is possible you have slipped through the cracks.
  • DO NOT threaten legal action. You have no case. Read the agreements that you accept every patch - those are legally binding contracts! Even if you have spent money on the game, this will not help.
  • Do be polite. Seriously. The people on the other end are going to be much more sympathetic if you are calm and reasonable
  • At the risk of repeating myself, DO NOT lie. It really won't help.

If I haven't convinced you, I hope I at least helped you consider the other side of the argument.

Do you think this new system might have an MMR alert if people win too many times? but then again it says it just monitors toxicity..

Heck one of the easiest ways to catch boosted accounts is to have a rioter pay to have a account boosted then track that account via Ip then ban all accounts used by the Ip that boosted the account. So at times you will see a lot of accounts banned at the same time because they are all related to the same booster/boosting service. This is one 100% accurate way to ban some boosters. Some times it can take months to confirm that a account was boosted so there are long delays between the boosting and the ban.
