I will always report surrenders as "Assisting Enemy Team" and this is why

This post assumes a 5v5 game

Anything can happen in a game. Just to start here is a list:

  • People can throw
  • Your team can get really weird catches and make a come back
  • A baron steal can turn a game around
  • Minions might hold off the other team long enough for you to respawn
  • Minions might backdoor
  • That player you've been yelling at all game might step up and be really good
  • You might be able to hold out for 20 minutes and farm up and push to victory
  • Their jungler might try to solo Baron and die making it a 4v5
  • Your end game might be stronger then theirs is and you can win at 50 minutes
  • Someone can DC from their team

OR

  • Your team surrenders at 20 and there is no hope for any of that

Any of those things can happen at any time, and that is a small list of all the things that can change a game. When your team surrenders there is no larger form of letting the other team win.

And I thought I was hardcore about never surrendering…

I wouldn’t recommend continuing this practice, though. I get your point, but surrender is a valid option, and is not a reportable offense.

That and not to mention it probably makes the tribunal's job so much more difficult.

SexyTaylorSwift1 votes

What tribunal? That mystical thingy hasn't been around for some time now....and probably won't be around for another some time.

Hate to break it to you, but if this is the case, your reports are quickly not going to be worth anything anyhow.

CarbonWyre5 votes

Explain to me, however you please, that in a case of a 5v5 how surrendering doesn't give them a win.

Zielmann3 votes

I'm not saying I disagree with the 'never give up' mentality.

I'm just saying your crusade is in vain. The tribunal isn't going to vote to punish people just because you say 'they surrendered'. Since your reports are going to be logged as false reports, they very quickly aren't even going to be counted by the tribunal at all.

CarbonWyre3 votes

I'd rather not. Team of 4 doesn't always lose, either. <--- Why you never surrender.

And they aren't false reports. I believe that anything that contributes (majorly) to the enemy team winning, for example surrendering, feeding, refusing to team fight, ignoring pushes on the nexus towers to farm blue, should be reportable. Anything that lets them practically have the victory and I dare you to think of a way that guarantee a win more efficiently then a team surrendering. Just a note, it's been shown that 100% of games surrendered have lead to the enemy team winning.

Unfortunately this is where you and the system disagree, people will vote pardon on them and the system will just log it as a false report and adjust the weight of your reports accordingly without you even noticing :)

Zielmann2 votes

There a difference between "isn't always the best idea" and "being a toxic player".

Like I said, I understand the whole never-give-up thing. I do. And per my statement you're quoting, I have on occasion won 4v5 games. Why? Because my team never gave up.

But nobody is making you vote 'yes' on a surrender. If you want to follow this mentality, then just always vote 'no' for surrenders.

But to jump all the way to 'surrendering is toxic' is just too far. We even saw it happening at the pro level during Worlds. Sometimes you just need to get out of a game, regroup, and start again fresh.

And it still doesn't nullify my previous statements about the system ignoring your reports. Because it will do this over time. And then when you do run into that player who is actually toxic, your report won't mean anything there, either.

Speedkat2 votes

I'm gonna have to take issue with your statistic there. Surrender does not, in fact, lead to a loss 100% of the time. Both teams can surrender, yet only one team can win.

In such a case, only the last team to surrender loses.

Sollaf2 votes

Surrendering is a viable option. Why continue to wait time, when you can go into another game and actually win. Sometimes there really is no hope, if your down 30-9 at the 20 min mark, surrender. All of the things you posted could happen, and you still wont be able to come back from that. However people here are right. If you're reporting for every surrender, your reports are not worth anything any more.

Cozarkian1 votes

I don't think you understand. If you report lots of people and those people don't get banned, then tribunal will start disregarding your reports. That means when you report actual toxic behavior, those players won't get sent to tribunal.

I've seen teams destroyed before surrender even becomes an option.

Yes, we get that you want to fight to the very end. But having the philosophy that reporting someone that isn't actually breaking the code is the right thing to do is pretty dumb when there's even a red post clearly indicating that surrender is not the same as assisting the enemy team.

If anything it's pretty selfish, as if your team isn't in the mindset to fight on, you're better off ending that game before the players become even more frustrated. Why? Because those frustrated players are likely to become the next trolls, feeders, etc. So by your frame of mind, You are in fact assisting the enemy teams of future games by upsetting your teammates so much that they're likely to take it out on other people.

People prefer to win than lose, but when one side is clearly dominating the other it's generally better to save that fighting spirit for the next match instead of killing it off completely.

Everyone parrots this statement, but where does it come from? Riot said chronic reporters have "reduced report weight", not "zero report weight".

Zielmann1 votes

This thread itself is about a year old, and discussions about the tribunal and reporting feature have gone on since long before that. And I've followed a lot of the discussions from the player behavior team for a long time. That is to preface the fact that, no, I'm not going to spend the time hunting down some specific Riot post where it was mentioned, because there would be so much to go through.

But it has been stated by Riot in the past that players who consistently falsely report other players will have their report weight decline, all the way to where they don't mean anything. If you don't believe me, I invite you to scour 4 years worth of Red posts to find it yourself.

The primary problem I see with this is that you're valuing your enjoyment over that of four other players on your team. I understand that sometimes it sucks when your team surrenders games that you think that you could have won, but the thing is, you had to be literally the ONLY person on your team who thought that. Otherwise, it would've been 3/2 and the game would continue. By stating that which you have above, you're stating that the fact that 4 people are now enjoying themselves more is not worth you having a very small chance of winning a game.

While I sort of understand not wanting to surrender..... When its hopeless, just surrender for your teammates. Some of us are busy professionals that work 60+ hours a week and want to make the most of our limited time to play games. Sitting around in 50+ minute game hoping for the other team to throw terribly is not a lot of fun. We aren't playing in the LCS, it is OK to take a loss and move on to the next game. Generally, it will be more fun for everyone involved.

The biggest problem I see with this is obviously you will always vote no to a surrender vote, which is commendable. The issue that comes in is the the other four people had to be in agreement for the game to be surrendered since it has to be 4 of 5 votes to surrender. League is very much a game based on perception, and if four of the five people believe that the game is unable to be won than in most scenarios the game will be lost based on that perception. Those four people will not be able to play well enough to win the game from that point on and everyone on your team would get more frustrated which could lead to more toxicity in game and punishable offences. So while I agree that surrender should not always be an option, if four out of five people agree to it just be happy that you didn't want to quit and go into your next game with that try hard attitude.

This post is feasible if you add three words "Only In Ranked" otherwise you are being hardcore about things that have no impact.

Elfan1 votes

I also report people who continually start surrender votes, but for "Negative Attitude". They are quitters and don't think that we can come back when I have been in games when the vote fails and we still win.

Also, why is it that people surrender when theres 30 seconds left in a game. Its so irritating! Just let the other team finish like they earned.

Oh didn't even notice the original post date - figured it was recent based on the last few posts. Silly beta boards.

Provengreil1 votes

yeah, they really need to sort it by date in the search function, I just ended up here too. Oddly, still a valid thread.

@riot, implement this.

Ye i understand the "never surrender" attitude, but sometimes the game is over. I am not going to waste an extra 30 min while Freddyfeeder and his friend AFKJay are ruining my fun time... If you want to report me for that then so be it, but while you are here raging about a surrender im having fun in my next game...

Bresn1 votes

And you're are the type of people I report for attitude and wasting my life.
